A strong transformation plan unifies the vision for technology integration and device maintenance with the school improvement plan or goals for the year.
All goals and action steps have been derived by carefully reviewing and analyzing several documents. These documents include the school's Single Plan for Academic Success, VILS End of Year Data (Survey Data, TIM Data, PLP Data), Teacher Technology Needs Survey, WASC Accreditation Feedback, and Title I School-Level Parent and Family Engagement Policy.
Each document was created in collaboration with committees such as School Site Council, School Decision Making Council, English Learner Advisory Committee, the Instructional Leadership Team, WASC Accreditation Committee, and all teaching faculty members. All committees have members that include teachers, administrators, students, parents, and other school employees. Opportunity to modify these documents are given during monthly meetings, common planning time, and professional develpment days.
South Gate Middle School continues to provide all stakeholders with the tools and knowledge necessary to leverage technology aand successfully meet program goals through professional development opportunities, in class demonstrations, parent engagment opportunities as outline in the Parent and Family Engagement Policy, and the availability of information through several communication platforms (Schoology, social media, email, ConnectEd messages, flyers, weekly updates, Coffee with the Principal, ELAC meetings, among others.
Modifications to the student centered goals will be made if necessary.
South Gate Middle School continues to focus on technology integration throughout the school year. The increased focused has resulted in significat gains in daily technology use both inside and outsiode the classroom. Schoolwide plans such as the 2022-2023 Single Plan for Student Achievement, 2022-2023 Professional Development Plan, and WASC Acrreditation Revisit Process (identified as an area of growth) have been developed to further emphasize the importance of technology integration. South Gate Middle School has also applied to continue to participate in the District's Practitioner Schools 7.0 Empowered Learner Program.
South Gate Middle School teachers embrace and embody a growth mindset around the different uses of technology to enhance instruction. Technology is utilized across campus to create equitable access, inspire collaboration, and foster metacognition.
South Gate Middle School has several leadership teams that meet throughout the school year to discuss school events, professional developments, program goals, department goals, parent engagement, and overall progress in meeting all established goals. The Instructional Leadership Team meets every week, the Instructional Cadre(PLC Leads, administrators, coordinators, and other instructional leaders) Department Chairs, and Teacher Leader Corps meet once a month. These teams develop technology-driven data analysis structures and embed best technology practices into all communications methods with staff and community members.
The district's Instructional Technology Initiative department provides professional learning opportunities through monthly Coaching Learning Session and monthly Virtual Connects for established Creative Communicator Teams at each participating school site.
South Gate MS technology use policies are aligned with the district's policies on responsible use of computing devices. Norms for iPad and Chromebook use are clearly communicated to all students during the first two weeks of school through PE classes and reinforced through the school year in Advisory classes. Students at each grade level
The District's ITI Department has monthly VILS IT calls where school representatives get to collaborate with other VILS Schools and share and refine best practices/procedures. Each local district has a liaison assigned to help with any issues/concerns that arise.
South Gate Middle School continues to further strenghten our Leadership Teams and promote equitable access, inspire collaboration, and foster metacognition. Our Instructional Cadre and Department Chairs continue to meet monthly to provide updates on school programs and revisit school goals to ensure all stakeholders are successful at our school. The Leadership team continues to meet weekly to create Professional Development plans using data from assessment, surveys, and feedback from other entities (VILS, WASC, ITI, LD East, etc).
South Gate Middle School technology use policies are aligned with the district's policies on responsible use of computing devices. A second assembly was conducted for all students on device safety and proper use. Letters were also sent home to parents for with fees associated with device damage, loss, or theft. 8th students are not allowed to collect Culmination tickets and Certificates without returning all school issued devices.
