Our biggest challenge this year has been dealing with a significant decline in attendance due to Covid-19 for both students and staff, and the ever-changing policies that affect this. It has also affected the time needed to address the needs of all programs at our school.
The last two years have been unique to our learning experience, but it should not hinder the progress we are making in providing equitable, accessible, and inclusive classrooms. All stakeholders will continue collaborating to maintain the sustainability of the program.
Our biggest success has been our significant increase of instructional technology use in our school from Year 1. As we moved from a virtual setting in Year 1 to in-person learning in Year 2, teachers and students have taken ownership of their choice and voice in the classroom. Students continue demonstrating their creativity and mastery of content standards through their use of technology. These successes directly align with our PLP goals #1 - 3.
We have also continued to offer opportunities for students to extend their learning into STEM pathways through ELAC robotic classes, LinkedLearning, and other partnerships as part of our PLP Stem goal.
South Gate Middle School has seen a positive shift in technology integration since the beginning of the VILS program. Technology is now leveraged in every facet of campus culture among all stakeholders: collaboration, communication, content creation, social-emotional learning, and academic achievement.
We need to make continue providing our school community with the tools, training, and resources to make sure 100 percent of members leverage technology on campus. Some of our systems will need to improve to become more effective and efficient and promote ownership of learning and technological success through continued whole school data analysis.
