As challenges present themselves, VILS, APS, and CSK collaborate to implement solutions to ensure students have the full benefit of the VILS Program. My loan challenge and semester 2 goal is to engage with the community more in technology usage and increasing technology literacy. As of now, this challenge will not affect to sustainability of the VILS program as it will be corrected before the end of year 1.
The biggest successes of the VILS program during semester 1 at CSK would be the rollout of student devices and the implementation of CSK S.T.A.R.'s(Students Tech Assistant Researchers).
The rollout of student devices were staggered by grade-levels during their advisories (homerooms). Previous to the rollout dates, the VILS Coach and members of the TLC labeled and assigned devices to students in the Incident IQ platform. This allowed devices to be delivered one-on-one from the VILS Coach and TLC Team. This way the coach and TLC members were able to give students directions about proper use and care. This allowed CSK to have protected instructional time as distribution only lasted 30 minutes each day for a three day period.
The implementation of the CSK S.T.A.R.'s. has proven to be a great accomplishment because of the leadership capacity being developed among the members. The three young ladies who are dual enrolled in CSK and Atlanta College and Career Academy (ACCA) have taken ownership of being a member of the team and assisting with taking CSK to new heights technology wise.
These successes align with the schools professional learning plan by directly affecting students ability to grow academically. The devices rollout protected instructional time and the CSK S.T.A.R.'s. assist students with tech resources. By the basis of the PLP being to improve student achievement, CSK's VILS successes directly impacts the PLP.
VILS has impacted the campus culture greatly! Not only do students who wouldn't normally have access to technology, now have access 24 hours a day 7 days a week. The students are learning how to use this technology towards their academic endeavors. The campus culture has even shifted for the teachers and support staff as many functions of the school are now technology centered. This is evident as you walk a hall, visit a classroom, or walk through lunch, because a laptop is common to see now at CSK. Teachers also use technology in delivering lessons EVERYDAY and asking for student created technology based products! The VILS program at CSK, is currently a well-rounded and effective performing program that is value added to the school.
