Schools that support family engagement in boosting at-home digital use can expect better outcomes.
Students are building their technology knowledge tremendously by having one-to-one devices and having teachers trained in integrating technology into their teaching practices. This year, we have more projects submitted to the APS Technology & Innovation Competition than ever before. This increase can be directly attributed to technology being combined with best pedagogical practices to positively impact student engagement in classes.
During the CSK Fine Arts Showcase in semester 1, the VILS Coach trained parents on the Securely App to monitor student device usage. For semester 2, a CSK Parent University was in the works to train, support, and empower parents in assisting their students with academic success and technology usage. The parent university would've offered trainings to adults in the community to improve technology literacy while students attend Saturday School for academic enrichment and recovery. Parents would engage in classes ranging from proper nutrition, budgeting, home ownership, credit counseling, various computer softwares, and college financial aid. Unfortunately, implementing ParentUniversity during Year 1 did not take place. We look to start this innovative during Year 2.
