In DASD, our music classrooms encourage students to explore music in a variety of ways. Middle School Digital Music is a non-performance based course designed for students interested in creating, recording, and producing music using technology. Using Soundtrap, a cloud-based digital audio workstation (DAW), students will develop foundational music technology skills while learning about the elements of music, song structure, and digital composition.
Students will:
Explore the elements of music (rhythm, melody, harmony, form, timbre)
Create original compositions using loops, MIDI instruments, and audio recording
Learn basic music theory and keyboard skills as tools for composition
Analyze popular music and film scores to understand musical structure and technique
Collaborate with peers on group projects using Soundtrap’s real-time collaboration tools
Learn the basics of audio editing, mixing, and music production
Reflect on their work through listening journals and peer feedback
