DAMS choir will continue to develop the foundational skills that they worked on in 5th-6th grade choir (and/or 7th). Students that are new to choir will receive additional resources to support their learning and catch up to grade level expectations. Students will have 2 concerts after school that are required to meet part of their performance standard. Students receive at least 2 small group lessons per school year to identify areas of growth and confirm core competencies.
By the end of 8th grade, choir students will be able to:
Sing in 3 part harmony
Sing a sight reading example in the key of C major with chord supports
Identify solfege patterns in their choir music
Identify their part in their music including split parts on the same line
Identify rhythms including using counting syllables:
Whole Notes/Rests
Half Notes/Rests
Quarter Notes/Rests
Dotted Rhythms/Rests
Paired eighth notes & Single Eighth Notes
Sixteenth notes groups
Eighth/ Sixteenth note groups
Understand the beginning of counting rhythms (transitioning from counting syllables to counting the beats)
