Welcome to Ms. Stephenson’s Grade 5 class!
Let me take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Cheri-Lyn Stephenson and this is my sixth year teaching at Pringle Creek, and my sixteenth year teaching with the Durham District School Board. I came to Pringle Creek in 2014, to teach Kindergarten. After that I moved to grade 3 and grade 4, where I have taught for the past four years.
For some of you, this is the second or third time that I have taught your child, and let me say that I feel very fortunate to spend another year as your child’s teacher. For my first time families, I am looking forward to getting to know you and your child this year, and working together to make this a wonderful school year.
My philosophy as a teacher, no matter what grade I teach, is to provide a safe place for children to learn, grow and explore. I believe that every child has a right to feel valued, respected and safe when they come to school each morning. My goal and expectation of each student, each year, is that we work together to create a learning environment that allows for every one of us to feel like we are part of a team. A team that will challenge each other to take risks and learn from our mistakes. A team that will listen to each other’s opinions and beliefs, without passing judgement or ridicule. A team where every member is equal and feels included. By creating a sense of “team” in our classroom, children learn to believe in themselves and know that others believe in them too. When that happens, the learning opportunities are endless!
We have already gotten the year off to a wonderful start! I am looking forward to the year ahead, and continuing to support each other through whatever comes our way.
We are off to a great start! Thank you for your support so far this year. I’m excited about the year ahead and glad to be back at school. I love that I see so many familiar faces. I realize it’s been a challenging year but hopefully being back at school, having routines and seeing friends will help.
I believe in an inclusive classroom where everyone deserves to be able to learn. Respect for others, self and property is my classroom rule, as it seems to encompass all expectations. We have been reviewing growth mindset and well-being the first few weeks.
We are fortunate to have 1-1 chromebooks this year, and therefore many activities will be posted on our Google classroom, to be accessed at school and home. Please ask your child to show you how they get onto Google Classroom at home.
Since we are unable to meet in person, I have created a slide show to present so you are able to see our classroom, student work and some of our routines.
Looking forward to a great year!
Mrs. Heyes
I am so happy to be back in the classroom, in person, teaching your children every day! I believe that students learn best when they feel welcomed, comfortable, and safe. With that, our classroom focus, so far, has been on students' well-being and mental health.
In our class, students are expected to demonstrate responsibility for their own behaviour and display consideration for the feelings of others. They are expected to show respect for themselves, other people, and the school.
I am looking forward to the rest of the year with this wonderful group of students! 🙂
We are fortunate to have a dynamic grade 5-6 teaching team who all work together to plan, create and ensure our students enjoy their education. Below is information their combined information of what is happening in their classrooms and expectations.
