It is important to warm up your muscles before participating in any physical activity.
In Color Guard, we use our body warm up to increase both our strength and flexibility.
We focus on our core muscles with both balancing poses and a rigorous crunch routine.
We practice ballet basics as we focus on our feet positioning and dance technique.
We perform even in warm ups as we use excellent posture and look up towards our audience.
Here is a video of our newest version of the Standing Warm-Ups!
This video is an outdated version, but covers many of the same exercises as the current one!
Sometimes it is fun to change it up and work your different muscles in different ways. This X-Stretch routine is brought to us from DCHS Guard, with one minor change. I have the audio prompt with prompts, or just the extended audio without prompts once you have it memorized.

For some shows, you do not have a lot of space for body warm up. Guard spaces for our personal belongings before shows can be very small areas, not a lot of room to spread out. However, this is the best time for a body warm up, before the official, timed warm ups.
For some shows, you do not have a lot of time for body warm up. Before performances there will either be a separate equipment and body warm up, or only one warm up session for both. Either way, the official timed warm ups are reserved for show work and equipment warm up. In a body warm up only, we would only do flag "air work" and do marking time run through of our show, focusing on our feet timing, movement, and dancing.
This version of a body warm up routine is a condensed version of the Standing Warm Up, the entire Arms Warm Up, and NO seated warm up.
A quick routine from our friends at DC! The one does not take up a lot of space, perfect for the small spaces we use for body warmups on show days.
This is the show warm up we used last year. We found that it did not save as much space as we had hoped. However, it still can be used for a quicker body warmup if you do have space but not time!
