DBS GUIDE TO SCHOOL SYSTEMS
In Pre-Prep, SeeSaw is used to keep parents up to date with the exciting events happening within the classroom. This may include photographs, videos, activities, important announcements, and learning overviews. Parents are encouraged to use this tool to communicate directly with their child’s class teacher. Your SeeSaw account has been set up using the email address we have on file, but we recommend that you send us a Google email address for easier access. SeeSaw has two apps on the app store, one for teachers and one for families - make sure that you download ‘Seesaw Family’. SeeSaw for iOS SeeSaw for Android
If you have problems connecting to SeeSaw, then please contact - IT_operation@dbsbangkok.ac.th
Tapestry is a secure online learning journal which helps teachers and families celebrate the children’s learning and development. Tapestry builds a record of a child’s experiences, development and learning journey. If you have problems connecting to Tapestry, then please contact: IT_operation@dbsbangkok.ac.th
DBS uses the Google for Education Suite for day to day school activities and it can be considered as an online and collaborative version of Microsoft Office. It is an incredibly versatile and useful system that is used by teachers for planning, creating and sharing resources, and delivering lessons. All student iPads from Y2 to Y8 will have their Google Accounts installed and set up for them. If there are issues logging in, please contact IT_operation@dbsbangkok.ac.th
The Google apps that you might come across are as follows:
GMail is the school’s main form of communication between teachers and teachers, teachers and parents, and also between teachers and students in Y7 to Y13. Every student at DBS will have their own GMail account created for them when they join the school, but students generally won’t start using it until they reach the Prep School. As would be expected, the students are taught the correct way in which to use email communications in terms of writing style and etiquette.
GMail will already be set up on the student iPads, but if this is not the case then please contact IT_operation@dbsbangkok.ac.th
Google Classroom is an online virtual learning environment that allows teachers to communicate with, share resources with and send homework to the students. All students in Y7 to Y13 will have a Google Classroom for each of their classroom based subjects which is linked to their GMail account, and will be invited to join each classroom by their subject teachers.
Google Classroom can be thought of as a private, secure academic version of Facebook, with a ‘wall’ onto which teachers can post work, resources, comments and allow students to reply to form an online discussion. Teachers can also submit homework from Google Classroom which can be a simple question, worksheets, essay prompts or even exam papers. Students must complete the work in the set time and then submit the work back to the teacher to be marked. Google Classroom also has an in-built system to check student work for plagiarism, which allows the teachers to determine the authenticity of work submitted and educates children in the need for originality in their written work.
Google Classroom will also invite parents to join, but the parents will not have full access - instead, they will receive a weekly email summarising the activity on their child’s Google Classroom, which includes homework activities. Google Classroom is linked to the students’ GMail account and will already be set up on the student iPads, but if this is not the case then please contact IT_operation@dbsbangkok.ac.th
Google Meet is the video conferencing system that is used at DBS and is fully integrated into Google Classroom. This is important, because it means that where Google Classroom is used, only students in that class can join the online lesson, therefore improving security. With the younger years, the Google Meet link is not sent through Google Classroom to allow parents to join the online lessons using their personal email accounts, but our Learning Assistants are on hand to ensure that everyone who has entered the online lesson is allowed to be there.
The school will also use Google Meet for events between teachers and parents including Open Days, parent meetings, Parent Information Meetings (PIMs) etc. Google Meet is linked to the students’ GMail account and will already be set up on the student iPads, but if this is not the case then please contact IT_operation@dbsbangkok.ac.th
