All students must review the Passports and Visas webpage for important information on travel document requirements before departure.
Once you’ve booked your flight(s), download your airline’s app for updates and to access your boarding passes.
Please avoid making financial commitments on travel-related expenses until you have received the Guarini Institute Travel Guidance email (also added to your application documents tab) which will be sent 8-12 weeks before program departure.
Travel Guidance will include:
program dates
arrival airport and timeframes (keep in mind time zone changes!)
if traveling from the airport to your housing has been arranged or if you need to arrange your own
Host institutions will communicate with students directly about arrival information, housing, and other registration matters.
High-need Financial Aid students can obtain funds for non-billable budget items via a financial aid “refund.” Some high-need students not only will owe nothing on their billing statement but will have enough aid leftover to cover their round-trip transportation and other costs after their billed charges are paid.
The following options are only available to students who will have a large enough refund available in their accounts to cover the travel charge.
Purchase your flights with money out-of-pocket.
Make an advance purchase of your flight and wait for your Financial Aid Refund to become available at the start of your study away term.
You can request your refund through DartHub and it usually takes a few days to process.
If the previous options are not possible, then you can book your ticket through the College’s travel service, ALTOUR. Though it is important to note that ALTOUR is not obligated to get you the best deal on flights; they only need to get you where you need to go by the time you need to arrive. So, if you have found or think you will find a better deal on flights on your own, you may be able to access a portion of your refund early to purchase your flights out-of-pocket. Please talk to Financial Aid to see if this is an option.
If you do choose to book via ALTOUR, you need to initiate this process with Financial Aid to ensure you will have an ample refund to cover the cost. Your flight will then be charged to your D-Pay account, where your expected refund would cover the cost directly.
After booking your flight, upload your travel itinerary to the Guarini Application portal. If you have only completed your arrival information, it's okay to leave the departure information blank for now until you have solidified your return plans. Once you have identified your return plans, please be sure to update your Travel Itinerary with that information.
