Georgia's Summary

‘I started VEX Robotics at The John Warner School in 2014 through a friend who initially got me interested.  This later led to opportunities such as participating in Regional, National and International events as well as presenting in front of IMECHE who then became a sponsor to the John Warner School Robotics community.  I later won both the Design Award and National Championships with my team, 3116B.

‘During this time, I chose Engineering as a GCSE subject and then continued the subject for A-Levels, inspired by Mr Higham. Doing so opened up further opportunities for me to become involved in VEX Robotics and, because of this, I won the Diamond Award for Female Engineers.

‘I felt university was not the right route for me. Instead I chose an Apprenticeship with MBDA which allowed me to study for an HNC & HND as well as NVQ level 3 in Engineering whilst earning an income and gaining experience within a workplace environment.  MBDA allowed me to gain experience in various engineering-based placements which eventually led me to my current role as an Engineer within the Integration Systems Validation Department.  I’ve been fortunate to have travelled abroad for my job.

‘During my apprenticeship at MBDA, I have organised various charity and volunteering events such as Robot Rumble, Charity Dinners, and careers days which have helped to inspire others.

‘Towards the end of my Apprenticeship, I was nominated for and won the National Apprentice East of England ‘Advance Apprentice of the Year Regional Award’ in 2022 as well as Alliance Learning ‘Outstanding Contribution’ and ‘Technical Apprentice of the Year’.  Through these achievements, I became an Apprentice Ambassador and was asked to co-host the National Apprentice East of England regional awards which took place earlier this month. In the last few days, I have been approached to become one of the Judges for the National Apprentice of the Year awards.

‘I have been very fortunate to have had the support of Mr Higham at school, my mentors at MBDA and family throughout my career so far and look forward to seeing what the future holds.’
