Harry Styles, Emma Corrin, and David Dawson are all set to star in My Policeman, a film adaptation of the book of the same name by Bethan Roberts, which is rumored to be released in late 2021 or early 2022. This will be Harry Styles’ third time starring in a film, his first being Dunkirk, directed by Christopher Nolan, and his second being Don’t Worry Darling, directed by Olivia Wilde (to be released). The film will be directed by Michael Grandage.
My Policeman, by Bethan Roberts, is a tale of tragic love. The summary of the book reads, “From the moment Marion first lays eyes on Tom -- her best friend’s big brother, blue-eyed -- she is smitten. And when he comes home from National Service to be a policeman, Marion, a newly qualified teacher, is determined to win him.” An encounter between an aged version of Tom and Patrick forces them to recount their love entanglement from 40 years prior. This story unfolds in the 1950s in Brighton, England. The tale hones in on a heartbreaking love triangle between Marion (Emma Corrin), Tom (Harry Styles), and Patrick (David Dawson).

The filming of this movie took off in England this spring. Many photos have been taken of the stars on set, ranging from rapturous to romantic. Some of the fan favorites include shots of Harry Styles and Emma Corrin sharing a kiss out in the town, as well as Harry Styles and David Dawson having a laugh on a coastal beach. Amazon studios has bought the rights to this film, which means the film could go straight into streaming once production has wrapped up.
As far as the production of the film goes, the screenplay was written by Ron Nyswaner, Oscar-Nominated and highly praised for his works such as Philadelphia and Homeland. With this being one of his largest big theatre projects, Michael Grandage will be directing the film. Behind the camera will be Ben Davies with works like The Eternals and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri on his resume.
Harry Styles fans have been joyously panicking over his new role. Most fans are excited to be seeing their idol portray a bisexual character, as Harry Styles himself remains open about his fluid sexuality; although he currently does not choose to label himself. A lot of his more hardcore fans (myself), have been speculating that the movie will be similar to Brokeback Mountain, which stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger as two star crossed lovers, unable to be with each other, due to their marriages and rampant homophobia during the time period.

It is always exciting to see a role-model celebrity explore other talents. Harry Styles has yet to disappoint his fans, and this film should not be the dealbreaker. This Grammy winner has us all falling for him with every new direction he takes in his career, and we are glad he is not heading in one direction.
