The Cavite State University – Carmona Campus, through the collaborative efforts of the Campus Research Services Office and the Office of Student Affairs and Services, successfully mounted the 4th Student Research Congress entitled “Think and Write: From Idea Conceptualization to Research Dissemination.” This academic milestone was held across four consecutive Thursdays—May 12, 19, and 26, with a culminating activity on June 2, 2022—conducted entirely online via Cisco WebEx, in alignment with the institution’s thrust toward flexible, inclusive, and research-driven education. The event exemplified the university’s commitment to advancing scholarly work and cultivating a culture of research excellence among students and faculty, especially in light of the growing need for innovation, evidence-based solutions, and socially relevant outputs within academic and industry settings.
This year’s congress was conceptualized to serve as an enriching platform for student and faculty researchers to gain foundational and advanced knowledge on the research process, starting from topic selection to the dissemination and presentation of their work. The carefully curated three-day webinar series featured a total of six expert-led lectures aimed at equipping participants with the essential tools and insights for producing high-quality, transformative research. Each session featured two relevant topics that addressed key areas of research development. On May 12, the spotlight was on choosing the right research topic—a foundational step that guides the relevance and scope of a study—and writing the research methodology, where participants learned about designing a valid, ethical, and rigorous approach suited to their research questions. The second session on May 19 tackled the importance of ethical considerations in research, emphasizing integrity and responsibility in data gathering and analysis, and was followed by an advanced session on invention spotting and claim drafting, which introduced the process of identifying novel contributions and formulating claims for intellectual property.
The final session of the webinar series, held on May 26, addressed practical and institutional aspects of research writing. Discussions focused on CvSU’s form and style guidelines, essential for uniformity and adherence to academic standards, as well as writing a publishable research paper, where participants were guided through techniques to elevate their studies for journal or conference submission. Each session followed a structured format beginning with registration, an invocation, and the singing of the National Anthem, Cavite Hymn, and Carmona Hymn. These were followed by opening remarks from Mr. Carlo Emil B. Mañabo, Campus Research Coordinator, and a special message from Campus Administrator Prof. Cristina M. Signo. The sessions were moderated professionally, with smooth transitions from speaker introductions to open forums, where attendees were given the opportunity to engage with the speakers and clarify points of interest. The sessions concluded with the awarding of certificates, expressing appreciation to all speakers and participants for their active involvement.
The final leg of the congress was the student research paper presentation, held on June 2, 2022, which served as a culminating platform for selected student researchers to formally present their completed studies before a panel of evaluators and fellow participants. Eligible presenters were bonafide 3rd and 4th year students enrolled in the Second Semester of Academic Year 2021–2022. Prior to the event, student researchers submitted their abstracts and full papers for screening and evaluation. Accepted entries were grouped into two major parallel sessions—Social Sciences, which included categories such as Business Management, Hospitality Management, and Education; and Information and Communication Technology, which covered areas such as Information Technology, Computer Science, and Industrial Technology. Each category featured three student presenters evaluated by three designated faculty experts.
The presentation proper was methodically scheduled. Each student was allotted 20 minutes for oral presentation, supported by a visual slideshow, followed by a 15-minute open forum where evaluators provided feedback, comments, and suggestions for improvement. The day began with registration at 7:00 AM and continued through a full-day presentation program. In the afternoon, short messages from the department research coordinators were delivered, followed by the awarding of certificates to evaluators, and ended with closing messages from the department chairs. The event was designed not only to assess the quality of student outputs but also to inspire and challenge presenters to enhance their academic work for future publication or implementation.
The student congress achieved its objectives of empowering participants in the conduct of research, enhancing their awareness of ethical research practices, introducing them to university writing standards, and providing them with valuable experience in scholarly presentation. The exchange of ideas during the webinars and paper presentations fostered a sense of academic camaraderie and confidence among participants. The event also helped reinforce the importance of aligning research with the university's research thrusts and community needs, making their outputs relevant, impactful, and transferable.
The activity was funded through the Campus Research Fund with an approved total budget of ₱52,000.00. The budget allocation covered honoraria for six invited resource speakers and six evaluators, as well as awards for the Best Paper presentations across eight categories, recognizing excellence in both the Social Sciences and ICT domains. The success of this event would not have been possible without the guidance and endorsement of key university officials, most notably Dr. Hernando D. Robles, University President, along with the support of Dr. Cristina M. Signo, Campus Administrator, and Dr. Ma. Agnes P. Nuestro, Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Overall, the 4th Student Research Congress – Think and Write stands as a significant milestone for CvSU Carmona, showcasing its unwavering dedication to academic excellence, research innovation, and student empowerment. It not only served as a venue for showcasing research outputs but also laid the groundwork for future collaborations, professional growth, and continuous learning within the academic community.
