FACULTY SYMPOSIUM 2025
"FutuREady - Envisioning Tomorrow: Exploring Futures Thinking for Innovation and Sustainability"
The Research Services Office of Cavite State University – Carmona successfully conducted its 1st Futures Thinking Day, dubbed “FutuREady,” on June 5, 2025, with the theme “Envisioning Tomorrow: Exploring Futures Thinking for Innovation and Sustainability.” The event, held at the Campus Audio-Visual Room, marked a pioneering initiative aimed at cultivating a forward-thinking mindset among faculty researchers and aligning research projects with both institutional priorities and global sustainable development goals (SDGs).
The day-long activity gathered CvSU-Carmona faculty members and student researchers, creating an interactive and visionary space to explore how futures thinking can drive innovation and sustainability in research. The event officially began with the registration of participants at 7:00 AM, followed by the nationalistic renditions of the Invocation, National Anthem, Cavite Hymn, and Carmona Hymn.
The opening program featured Dr. Carlo Emil B. Mañabo, Campus Research Coordinator, who gave the Welcome Remarks, emphasizing the importance of foresight and scenario planning in research development. This was followed by a Special Message from Dr. Jenny Beb F. Espineli, Campus Administrator, who underscored the significance of aligning research with long-term goals and institutional vision.
The morning plenary sessions featured two thought-provoking talks. The first plenary session, introduced by Prof. Jocelyn B. Siochi, was titled “Beyond the Present: How Futures Thinking Shapes Tomorrow’s World.” This session explored how scenario-based planning and strategic foresight could enhance research responsiveness to emerging global and local challenges. After an open forum, a certificate was awarded to the speaker.
The second plenary, “Research as a Catalyst for Innovation: Bridging Insights and Action,” was introduced by Dr. Carlo Emil B. Mañabo and delved into the role of research in shaping adaptive and solution-oriented innovations. This session likewise concluded with an open forum and the awarding of a certificate of appreciation.
In the afternoon session, selected faculty researchers presented their research proposals during clustered paper presentations, categorized into Social Sciences and Information and Communication Technology sessions. Dr. Michael Consignado, Chair of the Department of Management, opened the session with the introduction of paper reactors. The presentations were evaluated and critiqued by a panel of paper reactors, who later delivered their insights and messages, recognizing the relevance and potential impact of the proposed studies.
The program culminated with the awarding of certificates to the presenters, reactors, and resource persons. The event was formally closed with Closing Remarks by Dr. Maria Andrea C. Francia, Research Coordinator of the Department of Management, who encouraged participants to apply futures thinking approaches in their ongoing and future research.
