The 1st STAR (Students toward Transformative Academic Research) program, held on November 19, 2021, at Cavite State University – Carmona, successfully gathered faculty members, student researchers, and academic leaders to strengthen research capability and promote scholarly engagement in the new normal.

The program commenced with the registration of participants facilitated by the Department Research Coordinators, followed by the invocation, national anthem, Cavite Hymn, and Carmona Hymn. Mr. Carlo Emil B. Mañabo, Campus Research Coordinator, delivered the Welcome Remarks, emphasizing the importance of cultivating a research culture among students. This was followed by a special message from Prof. Cristina M. Signo, Campus Administrator, who encouraged participants to embrace research as a transformative tool for academic and community development.

The morning plenary sessions began with Ms. Jocelyn B. Siochi introducing the first resource speaker, Mr. Mañabo, who discussed The Basics of Research. An open forum ensued, allowing participants to clarify concepts and share insights. The session concluded with the awarding of a certificate of appreciation. Mr. Mañabo then introduced the second resource speaker, Ms. Karen Louela R. Rint, Chairperson of the CvSU Ethics Review Board, who presented Conducting Ethical Researches in the New Normal. Another interactive open forum followed, ending the morning session with the awarding of her certificate.

After the lunch break, the program proceeded to breakout sessions for the Department of Teacher Education and Department of Management, and the Department of Industrial and Information Technology.

In the Teacher Education and Management track, Ms. Gretchen Macaranas introduced Dr. Jake Raymund F. Fabregar, who discussed Practical Research Methodologies in the New Normal. This was followed by an open forum. Next, Ms. Maria Andrea C. Francia introduced Dr. Jenny Beb F. Ebo, who lectured on Statistics in Research: Analyzing and Interpreting Data in the New Normal. Participants actively engaged during the open forum, after which certificates of appreciation were awarded. Ms. Francia then delivered the closing remarks for the session.

In the Industrial and Information Technology track, Ms. Regene G. Hernandez introduced Prof. Emeline C. Guevarra, who presented The Basics of Intellectual Property: Its Relevance in the Academe. An open forum followed before Mr. Richard L. Hernandez introduced Engr. Sheryl D. Fenol, who discussed Technology Transfer and Commercialization Protocols. The session concluded with another open forum, awarding of certificates, and closing remarks from Ms. Hernandez.

Overall, the 1st STAR program was a milestone in advancing the research capabilities of CvSU-Carmona’s academic community. It not only provided foundational and specialized knowledge in research but also emphasized ethics, innovation, and technology transfer, paving the way for more transformative academic contributions in the years ahead.
