CVA’s Junior Prom
by Haylie Grescheck
Central Valley Academy’s Junior Prom was a huge success this year with the theme of Blossoming Romance! The prom, hosted by the class of 2026 at The Stone Barn on Beardslee Farm, was Saturday night, May 17th. At 4:30 the Grand March began. Many different duos elicited aws and laughter as they walked across the stage and posed. Once the march was over, students had about an hour to arrive at the venue before prom started.
The food selection featured a variety of foods ranging from different pastas, salad, several chicken dishes, and garlic knots, as well as cakepops and cupcakes for dessert.
The venue provided a free photo taken by a professional photographer as well as a photo booth with tons of silly props to use as a memento of the once-a-year event.
For music we had a special DJ come down all the way from New York City, and boy did everybody get their dancing in! Many shoes were taken off halfway through the night and could be seen on various chairs around the barn.
Let's not forget about our royals! There were three groups announced: Prom King - Jackson Kenyon and Prom Queen - Lisa Clements, and then there’s Prom Prince - Mason Zink and Prom Princess - Ava Crim, and last but not least, Prom Court - Makayla Turner and Coleigh Lape.
Finally, we interviewed one of the class advisors: Miss Connors! Here is what she had to say:
What was the turnout of the dance?
The turnout was great! There were about 167 attendees, which is larger than most proms.
Opinions on the Grand March?
It went well, and it all ran very smoothly. We had Doozer announcing, and everything was very well decorated.
How did you like the DJ?
I liked his music choices, but was waiting for him to be more interactive. But then again, his partner wasn’t there, so maybe the partner was the interactive one? It seemed to be a bit of a letdown overall.
Would you have done anything differently or added anything?
Well, we wanted hors d’oeuvres, but didn’t end up having them. A lot of the kids complained about being hungry before dinner was served, so we were thinking snacks or appetizers before dinner. We also seemed to need more desserts since the cake pops went so quickly.
Did it give you ideas for next year's senior prom?
Yes, we have already started making a list of things to include and add.
How did you feel about the outfit selections?
They were very tastefully done, and everyone found something that suited them.
