Central Valley Academy hosted its 19th “Mott Marathon” at CVA on June 8 at 10 a.m., which began with the Jarvis Marathon for the junior high students. The marathon started over Mr. Mott and a student, Eric Lanchez, who were debating over Mott’s Boston Marathon time. He eventually made a challenge for his students to meet on the track and try to beat his marathon time. For many years the marathon has been about “My Best Me,” which focuses on mile times, fitness, health, holistically, and overall being the best you can. Additionally, Mr. Mott is also doing a Relay for Life with the “American Cancer Society,” like they did in 2007.
Over the course of 18 years, many students have run the marathon with friends and classmates and even faculty. People from all over the district are encouraged to run and come out to support the cause. The marathon is about challenging yourself to push the limits of comfortability, and showing up for yourself and others in your school to demonstrate a sense of teamwork, commitment, and determination. This year’s marathon is about "Full Circle,” which celebrates the life of Christopher Newtown. As a community, this event is about supporting the seniors who are running, the family and friends who are there for support, and the overall dedication it takes to run a marathon.
