Seth Boyer is from the 2024 graduating class. He now attends SUNY Polytechnic Institute with the hope of one day becoming a software developer/engineer. Seth is also a summer hire at the Regional Information Center. His advice to current high school students is:
“The best way to learn new concepts is to actively engage with the relevant material both inside and outside of class. In my experience, the best form of this engagement was teaching it to one of my peers who was either not familiar with the topic or was having a difficult time understanding it. Not only do I think that this helped me solidify my confidence in each of my courses, but I also believe that explaining the material helped to strengthen others’ understanding as well."
Annamarie Lyman is from the 2024 graduating class. She now attends SUNY Geneseo with the hopes of getting into acting, filmmaking/television, or education. Her advice for current high school students is:
“Things aren’t going to go the way you planned. There are going to be roadblocks in areas of your life that you weren’t really prepared for. Everything changes. Sometimes they change in a way that we don't want them to. Be ready for that. Embrace it. Be changed, and make sure that it’s for the better."
Connor Mack is from the 2024 graduating class. He now attends SUNY Polytechnic Institute with the intention of someday becoming a software engineer. Currently Connor works in food service and is a caterer. His advice to current high school students is:
“My advice would be to do as many AP or College Now classes as you can, so you can save yourself money in the long run. Also, build up your resume with things like community service and volunteer work as it looks better for college/employers."
Dylan Negron is from the 2024 graduating class. He goes to SUNY Albany/SUNY Poly with the hopes of someday becoming a weather anchor or meteorologist/photographer. His advice to current high school students is:
"Take calculus in high school. Don't wait until college; you will regret that big time."
Matthew Martinez is from the 2024 graduating class. He now attends Utica University, aspiring to one day become a physical therapist. Martinez currently works in customer service. His advice to current high school students is:
“Enjoy high school, have fun, and all things come in due time." Matthew also added, “Do your best and look out for others. Take care of people around you. Life is too short for drama, so just be yourself."
Derek Weiderman is from the 2024 graduating class. He plans to further his career as an ebay flipper and expand on his business. Derek’s advice to current high school students is:
“Enjoy high school while it lasts before going to the real world."
