Coaching Guidelines

2022-2023 PAROCHIAL LEAGUE ATHLETIC POLICY

ARTICLE 3: ADMINISTRATION/ SECTION 4

Coaches should be familiar and follow the Parochial League Athletic Policy. As a coach they should be mindful of the physical safety of the students and not place any student in a position where serious injury may occur. Coaches must not physically or emotionally abuse any student who is under their supervision. Coaches should be aware that a student’s performance may be limited by their present physical and emotional developmental stage. Each student who is a member of the team should receive ample opportunity for playing in games on a regular basis. Persons who abuse these guidelines will lose the privilege of coaching in the Parochial League.

All coaches and assistant coaches in Catholic schools must have completed the Safe Environment Training mandated by the Diocese of Little Rock and have a background check completed by the Diocese of Little Rock before they will be allowed to coach.

CMG Training

Mandatory Safe Environment Requirements for ALL School Volunteers

Any person working in any capacity with children of Christ the King (including parents/volunteers) must complete all Safe Environment requirements described within the Diocese of Little Rock Safe Environment Policy. School volunteers must register and complete the Safe Environment Training Curriculum in CMG Connect including a background check. These requirements and certification must be completed before an individual is allowed to volunteer at school.

The Diocese of Little Rock Policy is available online at http://www.dolr.org/safe-environment. Volunteers will register and complete requirements using the CMG Connect system https://littlerock.cmgconnect.org/.

Note: Additional CMG training is required for volunteers who will transport students (other than their own) for School/Church events (for example: field trips). Instructions for Safe Driver Training are available through the school office.

Directions for Safe Environment Training and Certification

5. Complete all modules. Your curriculum will show ‘In Progress’ until the Diocese reviews your background check report.

Note: After completion, all requirements are verified by the Diocese Safe Environment Office and the CMG Connect Certification status is approved.. This process may take several weeks. All volunteers must maintain their certification status in CMG Connect, and respond to diocese requirements and communication. Volunteers must renew their Safe Environment certification every 5 years.

For questions regarding CMG training or to inquire on the status of your certification, please contact Mary Catherine Burney at mcburney@ctklr.org

IV. SELECTION OF VOLUNTEER COACHES

Coaches, whether paid staff or voluntary, should bear in mind at all times that sports are only games and their actions and behaviors should reflect such.

Coaches should be mindful of the physical safety of the students and not place the student in a position where serious injury may occur. The coaches should bear in mind their position with regard to leadership and development of the child. Coaches must not physically or emotionally abuse any student who is under their supervision.

Coaches should be aware of individual ability, skills, and attitudes among the students and realize that children are not adult athletes and will perform accordingly. Each student who is a member of the team should receive ample opportunity for playing in games on a regular basis. This is not to say that coaches should not field their strongest team as game conditions dictate. Persons who abuse these guidelines may be asked to give up their role as coach for the church league.

A. Cheerleading - Sponsors will be faculty members appointed by the principal.

B. Football - Each year, one head coach will be appointed by the principal. Assistant coaches will be selected by the head coach in consultation with the principal from qualified volunteers.

C. Basketball/Volleyball - Volunteer coaches will be selected from all interested in coaching. First preference will be given to parents of children on the team. If more than one parent wants to be the head coach, they will be given the opportunity to work out an agreeable coaching solution among themselves. If an agreeable solution cannot be reached, the principal will select the head coach based on experience. If interested parties have equal experience, a random drawing will decide the head coach position.

D. Soccer - Coaches are assigned to teams in the following age divisions:

1.Under 6-age divisions, parent volunteers are needed each year to coach these teams. No prior soccer experience is necessary.

2.Coaches for Under 8 (1st & 2nd grade) divisions will also be parent volunteers
