Praying for your families to feel the peace, presence and assurance that God is with you.
I am writing this the weekend before the election knowing that a change is coming and wanting to respond well regardless of the outcome. This past week I have listened to radio broadcasts and read thoughts in an article written by Dennis and Barbara Rainey about how to respond in faith and not fear in uncertain times. What is shared below is a portion of the article called, “7 Truths to Remember in Troubled Times”, and it was helpful for Angie and me.
Concerned about economic, political, racial, and moral instability in our culture? Disheartened by struggles in your personal life? Here’s what to focus on when the ground shakes beneath your feet.
Life will never be easy. We will always face problems and hardship. That would be true even if our culture felt more stable than it does today, for the Scriptures promise us, “In the world you shall have tribulation.”
So how will we deal with loss, with grief, with fear, with suffering? How do we respond when things don’t go our way? And how do we teach our children to face the hardships of life? These seven truths will be helpful to remember in unsettled times.
God is alive. He has not disappeared. He is eternal, all-powerful, and all-knowing, just as He has been from the beginning of time. Isaiah 40:28
God never changes. Jesus, the One who is “the same yesterday, today, and forever” Hebrews 13:8.
God offers eternal life. “neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39
God has won the battle. “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
God is still in control. “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28
God will provide for your needs. In Matthew 6:26-33, Jesus tells us we should not be worried about what we eat, or what we will wear.
God has given us good works to do. Second Corinthians 5:20 tells us that we are ambassadors for Christ.
When life feels insecure and unstable—not just in the world outside but also inside your family—remember that God is ultimately in control. No matter what is happening around you or how unsteady the world feels, He is our sure and stable foundation.
When you feel the ground shift beneath your feet, it’s good to remember that Jesus is your Rock and your Fortress. He will be the stability of your times.
