Social Studies 7

The Social Studies curriculum for grade 7 is arranged chronologically, beginning with the settlement of North America by Native Americans and ending with the Civil War.

The course emphasizes the skills of chronological reasoning and causation but also integrates skills and content from geography, politics and economy and culture into the study of history.

Key units include Native Americans, Colonial Developments, American Independence, the U.S. Constitution, Westward Expansion, Reform Movements and A Nation Divided.

Particular emphasis is given to the use of primary source documents, and the development of reading, writing and research skills.

Major Projects/Research Requirements: Students are required to complete a project each quarter, one of which will be a research paper.

Exams: There will be a departmental Mid-Term and Final Exam
