AP United States History

Successful completion of S.S. 11 or AP US History is required for graduation.

AP U.S. History is an introductory college-level U.S. history course.

Students cultivate their understanding of U.S. history from c. 1491 CE to the present through analyzing historical sources and learning to make connections and craft historical arguments. They will explore concepts like American and national identity; work, exchange, and technology; geography and the environment; migration and settlement; politics and power; America in the world; American and regional culture; and social structures.

This course is suited for ­students interested in developing college-level skills of historical analysis and in gaining greater knowledge of Ameri­can historical events.


Requirements: Summer Assignment, AP Exam in May and Regents Exam in June

Prerequisite: Departmental Approval

Recommended: Grade of 80 or better in APWH, Grade of 85 or better in S.S. 10, superior reading and writing skills.


*Successful students should plan to spend approximately 5 hours per week outside of class on this course.
