● A purpose is a reason for doing something, so an author’s purpose is the author’s reason for writing something. The author’s purpose could be to persuade you, or try to convince you of something. An author can also try to give you information about a certain topic, or he/she may be simply trying to entertain you with a story. When you’re trying to decide what the author’s purpose is, you should use evidence from the text, like words and phrases.

Journal Entry 1
This is where you can journal about COVID 19. We are all in uncharted territory and our staying at home looks different for everyone. Some of you are used to being in activities every day of the week, not all of your parents are teachers, etc. Here is an opportunity to write about your thoughts and feelings about it. Rather than making you write ANOTHER personal narrative, we thought this would be a good way to write your thoughts in the present and we will also feel like we are getting to chat with you. It helps you and your teachers! :) You only need to write a paragraph, which is 5-7 sentences, if you want to write more, feel free. Keep in mind, you will be journaling throughout our remote learning.
Don’t forget to use:

This is another entry on your thoughts and feelings about COVID19. Maybe nothing has changed, maybe something has to make you upset or angry or feel thankful for this time with your family. Write about it, at least a paragraph, 5-7 sentences.
