How to Explain Mindfulness and Emotional Regulation
to Elementary Students:
Mindfulness is simply noticing what is happening right now.
It is noticing what is going on inside and outside of ourselves.
Inside is our feelings, our thoughts, our bodies, and our breath.
Outside is our senses, including sounds, smells, touch, what we see, and what we taste. This also includes our interactions with others and the world around us.
Mindfulness can help us calm down when we have a difficult emotion, it can help us focus in school and sports and it can help us feel happy.
