Student Code of Conduct

Rocky River Teacher Guidelines

    • Teachers are to contact parents when disciplinary problems occur. In addition, teachers should not contact parents during instructional time. Utilize planning periods, before, and afterschool time to make these types of communication.

    • Discipline shall be administered in a manner that is not humiliating, degrading, or unduly severe in nature.

    • A student’s grade shall not be lowered as a disciplinary action.

    • Teachers are expected to handle Tier 1 behavioral offenses. Referrals to an administrator should involve only Tier 2, 3, and 4 offenses.

    • Suspension from school is a disciplinary matter and is considered an excused absence. Accordingly, any student suspended from school will be given the opportunity to make up any missed work during the absence.

Administrators for Grade Level Discipline

    • 9th Grade - Jeremy Cox (Assistant Principal) & Monica McMahon (Dean of Students)

    • 10th Grade - Juwan McKenzie (Dean of Students)

    • 11th Grade & 12th Grade - Chiquita Boyd (Assistant Principal of Instruction) & Jonathan Lamb (Assistant Principal)

Administrative Referral

  • For Tier 2, 3, and 4 offenses, referral forms must be legibly and accurately completed. In order to avoid delays be sure to submit to the correct administrator, include the correct name (no nicknames), ID #, and be sure to include previous interventions. When writing a referral, remember that a copy will go home with the student so it should not include names of other students, your opinion of the student, parent, etc. At least three interventions should be used prior to writing a referral including parent contact.

  • If a student requires removal from the room, a Campus Security Associate must be contacted via the telephone and someone will be sent to escort the student to the assigned administrator. If that administrator is not available the student will be escorted to ISS in A202.

  • Under no circumstance should a student be sent into the hall unsupervised.

  • When a student has been disciplined, a copy of the referral with the disciplinary action will be placed in the teacher’s mailbox.

  • Teachers will be notified of all student suspensions daily via email .

Classroom Behavior

Students are expected to follow the rules that individual teachers have established for student conduct. All behavior guidelines at Rocky River comply with the CMS Code of Conduct as specified in the Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook.
