Watch the interview with Delia Owens. Make notes. Our Big Question- What is the book REALLY ABOUT? Yes, it's about a young woman abandoned by her family, about a broken heart, and about a murder trial. But what is the bigger thematic idea that she was trying to capture in her story? What is Delia Owens saying about US? About LIFE? About what matters?
Write down your answer in your journal in the form of a complete sentence- Example:
Delia Owens' Where the Crawdads Sing is a novel about...
Next, write down at least 2 moments from the story that support this statement. Be specific.
Prologue Analysis ---------------------------------------->
The opening prologue introduces one of the primary themes of the book through the main symbol of the book: the existence of light and darkness in us all, represented in the ideas of marsh and swamp. Writing Workshop 1: Free Response Question #3 (FRQ3 also known as the Open Question)
These prompts are similar to what you will be offered on the exam in May; some of them are actual released previous prompts, others are original prompts in the same style. Read them and then based on the Visual Map you've created, choose the prompt that best matches your direction. This will be the prompt to which you'll respond in your ICE (in class essay) on Thursday.
BONUS ACTIVITY: Read the article and view the images of Sophie Prestigiacomo's sculptures, make notes, and write a personal response in your journal. What is your reaction to her sculptures? How can you connect these three "texts"- novel, poem, sculptures- together? How do they 'speak' to each other?
1, Click on the link to the Book Club Kit and choose 2 of the discussion questions to answer. Your response should be a formal paragraph and should include direct evidence from the novel.
2. Read the interview with Delia Owens and add to your inital notes from the video interview we watched together.
3. OPTIONAL BONUS ACTIVITY: If you'd like, try out one of the recipes listed! Take a picture in the kitchen, write about your cooking experience, and rate your creation! Send me an email about your experience! This activity will earn an extra 50/50 grade in the book. :-)
