Build-a-Monster
AP Literature Gothic Unit Culminating Project
AP Literature Gothic Unit Culminating Project
Your goal is to create a monster (writing, art, media) that represents some aspect(s) of our modern fears & anxieties and their relationship to monstrosity. What "monsters" in modern life are symbolized in your creation? How can you represent your chosen fear through monstrosity?
Using our unit information and texts as inspiration- "Selfies", "Click-Clack the Rattlebag", short films, "The Yellow Wallpaper", gothic poems & passages, novels, etc- consider HOW those 'monstrosities' represent one of Leo Baudry's FIVE monster types- Nature, Creation, Within, The Past, Vague/Nameless Danger- from my lecture on Wednesday. Brainstorm a list of modern fears and anxieties (AI, climate crisis, body image, housing, crime, unknown future, etc) and personal anxieties (spiders! dolls! kidnappers!) and begin building your monstrosity.
This monster is NOT a re-creation of any of the particular monsters we've read about. This is YOUR CREATION (mwuahahahaha); your mad scientist abilities should be on full display! You will display your monster on Thursday, Nov 21!
