TITLE/Context Setting Sentence/5 Scenes to a Theme
Example of Context Setting Sentence:
All the Light We Cannot See centers on Marie-Laure, a blind French teenager and Werner, a young German soldier, as each tries to survive the devastation of World War II, their lives moving ever closer to each other.
Notice that this sentence isn't so much analysis as an "umbrella" statement introducing the book to your reader. It's a way to introduce the big picture so that you can transition into a prompt specific thesis. It's also a way to just get your hands typing and your brain moving. If you have one of these memorized (or close to it) for each title, you have a way to start ANY essay. If you follow this sentence with a complex thesis statement addressing the prompt AND naming a thematic topic (or 2) you'll have a STRONG start. Sometimes, just getting that START can open up the writing process for you!
Revisit all of the full length (short story, novel, drama) works that we have read this year. Choose 3 to "deep prep"- you want to know these inside and out, upside and down. These texts will answer a wide variety of prompts if you have a strong grasp of the details!
You can OF COURSE deep prep more than 3 texts, and you might want to spend a little extra time with the texts from the first semester, since they're the furthest removed from your mind.
