Stress can help you perform under pressure, motivate you to do your best, or avoid danger. However too much stress can disrupt our sleep, stop us achieving our best, lead to conflict or create health concerns.
For a lot of people talking may help identify the cause of stress and a pathway to overcoming stress. If you need to talk to someone outside your family/friends, counsellors are available in the Wellbeing team at school and in the community.
Exercise can help us to rebalance, calm ourselves and cope better.
Sometimes when we are stressed it can become a bit of a cycle of not taking care of ourselves and getting run down. Try to remember to care for yourself and eat a balanced diet especially at stressful times.
Perhaps you could try meditation, check out some of the Apps listed to get you started.
Visualise yourself in a calm place; this may be a happy memory, a place you have always wanted to go to, or what it will feel like when your homework is done. Spend a couple of moments noticing what you are like when you are calm (i.e. what can you see/hear/feel). When you feel calm ask yourself “What is the smallest change I can make to overcome this issue?” (i.e. speak to my friend, finish this assignment). Complete the ‘smallest’ task. Repeat as necessary.
