Longtime California World Language Project consultant and co-author of the state's 2019 World Languages Standards and 2020 World Languages Framework, Brandon Zaslow, has released a free implementation resource for the field: Implementing California's World Languages Standards and World Languages Framework: Practical Tools for Teachers, Departments, Programs, and Professional Learning Providers.

Zaslow — who also contributed to the 2003 Foreign Language Framework and has spent nearly four decades in California world language professional learning — created the guide to help educators move from awareness of the standards to sustained implementation in classrooms, departments, and programs.

The 173-page resource translates the standards and framework into practical tools covering:

• Course, unit, and task design

• Proficiency development and assessment

• Culture, interculturality, and content connections

• Differentiation and Universal Design for Learning (UDL)

• Heritage learners, biliteracy, and multilingual pathways

• Instructional materials review

• Department implementation, professional learning, and coaching

It's available in both PDF (for stable viewing and sharing) and an editable Word version, so departments and PL providers can adapt the tools to local needs. Zaslow developed it with AI assistance for drafting and organization, while the professional judgment and final content remain his own.

We invite language educators to submit a proposal and share the innovative ideas, practices, and experiences that inspire and strengthen our profession.

CIEE is looking for a few teachers that can help coordinate for them across the world! Being a coordinator can be a great side hustle for teachers to earn some extra cash, travel the world, and help to connect their local community with cultures from across the world.

Coordinators typically:

• Are curious about other cultures

• Enjoy spending time encouraging and working with teenagers

• Want to share their community with other cultures

• Love to travel!

Coordinators are paid for their help and go on some pretty amazing trips! In the next 12 months CIEE will be going on trips to Costa Rica, México, Iceland, and Italy!
