Photography is about ideas, composition, and using photographic technologies to see the world in new ways. It allows us to explore space, people, and whole new worlds through digital technology and image editing. Students are encouraged to push the boundaries of how we view and represent the world around us. Students are required to develop ideas, and themes over the year in consultation with the teacher and to formulate an individualised photographic style. Students must take inspiration from established artist models, ideas and techniques and will also study the theory of art. Photography can utilise a range of approaches including sketching, collage, digital processes, darkroom practice, found materials, and installation work.
Students are encouraged to be innovative and will build on their knowledge of art techniques studied in Year 11. The course cost covers materials for the folio boards, and all paper and printing. Students will be expected to use their own digital SLR camera.
The recommended prerequisite for Photography at Level 2 is a minimum of 16 credits in Level 1 Art, or HoD approval.
The prerequisite for Photography at Level 3 is a minimum of 16 credits in Level 2 Photography, or HoD or Curriculum Leader approval.
