Painting

Painting is about texture, observation, risk-taking, problem-solving and possibilities. It allows us to explore the formal qualities of colour, shape or space but can also push the boundaries of how we view and represent the world around us. Students are required to develop ideas, and themes over the year in consultation with the teacher and to formulate an individualised painting style, exploring a range of painting media. Students must take inspiration from established artist models, ideas and techniques and will also study the theory of art. Painting can utilise a range of approaches including drawing, collage, photography, digital processes, printing, found materials, and installation work.

Students are encouraged to be innovative and will build on their knowledge of layering, drawing, printing and painting techniques studied in Year 11. The course cost covers materials for the folio boards, and all paper and mediums. Students will also be expected to purchase an art pack.
