Can I take NCEA Visual Arts Scholarship in Year 11 or 12?
NCEA Scholarship in the Visual Arts in only able to be offered at Year 13, as a three board folio (3.4) is required as part of a Scholarship submission. You need to be in a Level 3 Visual Arts class to participate in NCEA Scholarship (Painting, Photography, Design, Printmaking & Sculpture).
What can I do to prepare for Scholarship in Year 13?
Read art books, art biographies, and art theory
Practice talking and writing intelligently about artworks
Focus on the written components of your art units (research, reflection, self-critique, etc.)
Extend your use of techniques, including documenting your process as you learn new ways to work with media
Read and look closely at Scholarship exemplars (below)
What does NCEA Visual Arts Scholarship involve?
Along with an Excellence-level 3.4 folio board you are required to complete 8x pages of research, analysis, reflection, and extension thinking to support your folio submission.
How is it assessed?
It is graded with 8 points on three criteria (24 total):
Analysis
Synthesis
Communication
