Hello, KLO Families!
Spring has arrived at KLO, and with it comes a season full of pride, partnership, and celebration! From beautiful music concerts that showcase our students’ talents, to meaningful events that bring our community together, this is one of the most exciting times of the year. While the calendar is full, our focus on strong learning and continued growth remains at the heart of all we do—and our Cubs continue to rise to the occasion!
I can't wait to celebrate together at our Earth Day Celebration today, April 24, where students, families, and staff came together for our community grounds clean-up and the Color Run! It was a wonderful example of teamwork, school pride, and caring for the world around us—thank you for being part of it! 🌎💛
As we look ahead, we have some exciting end-of-year traditions coming up:
📢 Field Day – May 18
We are amping up Field Day this year and would love your help in making it a memorable experience for our students!
9:30–11:00 → Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and morning preschool
1:00–2:30 → 3rd, 4th, 5th, and afternoon preschool
Volunteers are asked to arrive about 30 minutes early to help with setup.
If you’re able to help, please sign up here:

🐻 Kloefkornucopia – May 20 at 2:15 PM
One of our most special traditions is just around the corner! Kloefkornucopia honors our school’s namesake, Nebraska State Poet Bill Kloefkorn, with a joyful neighborhood parade.
This year, we are excited to welcome back our graduating seniors as honored guests—a true full-circle celebration!
Families are invited to line the parade route (Glass Ridge, Meursault, and Oakville), bring a lawn chair, and cheer on our Cubs. Students are encouraged to wear plaid (a Mr. Kloefkorn favorite) or school colors. Streets will begin closing around 1:45 PM, with the parade starting shortly after.
The 4th quarter is always filled with growth, reflection, and celebration. Thank you for being such an important part of our Kloefkorn community. Together, we are making this a truly memorable year for our Cubs! 🐾💛

Do you have a child - or do you know of a child - that will start kindergarten next year? Lincoln Public Schools is now accepting kindergarten registrations for the 2026-2027 school year.
Parents of children turning five years of age on or before July 31, 2026 can go to lps.org and click on the red “Enroll Your Student” button. Here you will also find all the information necessary for registering, the required documents needed and answers to frequently asked questions.
For children who turn five between August 1 and October 15, parents may request an assessment for their child to receive a waiver to attend school early. That information is also located on the kindergarten registration page.
Parents who do not have access to the online registration, or wish to register their child in person, should contact their attendance area elementary school as soon as possible. Questions about kindergarten registration should also be directed to the child's attendance area school.
For more information about kindergarten registration and assessment testing for incoming students, please go to: https://home.lps.org/studentservices/kindergarten-registration-assessment/.
We began taking preschool applications for 2026-27 on January 2, 2026. Children who will be three as of July 31, 2026 and not yet five, and reside within the Lincoln Public Schools boundaries are eligible to be considered for preschool. Information about the preschool application process is available on our website at https://home.lps.org/earlychildhood/preschool-application/.
Once again, our lost and found area is overflowing! We have been collecting many coats, sweatshirts, hats, mittens, gloves, and much more. Please remind your children to take a look and claim anything that belongs to them. At the end of the year, we'll donate all unclaimed items to a local charity.
We understand that our four-legged friends are an important part of families. However, for the safety of all, we remind you that pets and personal companions are not allowed on school grounds when students are present. Even though your pet might act appropriately around children, there may be other pets that are no okay when around animals. Page 45 of the Important Information Booklet states:
"For the safety and well-being of students, parents, community members and staff, pets/personal companion animals are not allowed to be brought on school grounds when students are present except in accordance with this regulation [3972.1]. Having your pet in the car with you when you pick up your child is acceptable."
If you are walking, please keep your animal on a leash in accordance with city ordinances and stand across the street and off school property. Thank you for your assistance!

Sunshine, Safety, and Spare Clothes!
I hope you have all been able to get outside and enjoy this beautiful weather! A little sunshine and fresh air truly do wonders for everyone’s mental and physical health. As we enjoy the season, I have a few quick reminders to keep our students safe and comfortable:
Footwear for PE & Recess: We are seeing an increase in injuries related to students wearing sandals and Crocs during active play. If your child wears these to school, please remind them to be extra cautious. For the best safety, athletic shoes are always recommended!
Health Office Loans: As we wrap up the school year, please return any borrowed clothing items to the health office. We are currently running low (or are completely out) of several sizes.
Pack a Spare Set: Accidents happen in EVERY grade! From lunchtime spills to muddy playgrounds, students are always more comfortable in their own clothes. I recommend that all students keep a spare outfit (shirt, pants, socks, and underwear) in their backpacks. This also saves you a trip to school during the workday!
Thank you for being the best families to partner with!

In quarter 4, classroom lessons focus on post-secondary readiness. This is always a unit I receive many questions about!
Post-secondary lessons are designed to bridge the gap between current academic efforts and future life goals. We talk about students’ educational journey - elementary school, middle school, and high school. We also discuss graduation - what it means, how it is often celebrated, and skills and requirements needed for graduation. We explore various post-secondary pathways - trade schools, universities, military, and entrepreneurship opportunities.
When this is learned at the elementary level, it is focused on awareness, rather than decision making. Students are introduced to careers beyond what their parents do, shown how math and reading apply to jobs, and emphasize skills like responsibility, perseverance, teamwork, and self-confidence to help develop essential workplace habits. This is a time for them to dream, share those dreams with others, and think about skills they have or could continue to work on to ensure lifelong success.

Social media can be a great way for kids to connect and learn, but it also comes with risks like cyberbullying and misinformation. Parents play an important role in helping their kids handle these challenges and build healthy online habits.
To start a conversation with your child, try asking:
What do you like about using social media, and what do you think can be tricky about it?
How do you decide what's okay to share or post online?
Have you ever seen someone being mean to someone else online? What did you do?

On May 27, 2026, the district will switch the student information system to the Summer School term. This means up to May 27, 2026, you can review final grades in the ParentVUE Report Card tab. After that date, you can assess final grade information from the Documents tab or Course History tab.
Email board@kloefkornpto.org if you have any questions, or visit our website www.kloefkornpto.ptboard.com/home for more information regarding what the PTO is up to.

As this school year winds down, we want to give a massive shout-out to our outgoing board members for their tireless work. Because of your foundation, we are excited to welcome our new members.
Orders are due TODAY- April 24th! Students will receive their yearbooks by the end of the school year. Don't delay, as we don't order extras! The cost is $20 and features each class, fall parties, science fair, and other fun school events. Please email kloefkornyearbook@gmail.com if you have any additional yearbook questions. Order HERE.
Our Color Run event will begin at 5:00 pm at Kloefkorn where we will spread mulch around the front of the school. Bring your shovels and rakes and look out for our Mulch Captains for directions on where to spread. Immediately following we will have our Color Run behind the school including DJ and food truck. We hope to see you there!
When you join PTO, you make a difference in your child's education! Make sure to join PTO for the 2025-2026 school year. Dues are only $15 and help us meet the needs of all our students! The student directory is also available online for paid members.
Sign up at kloefkornpto.ptboard.com.
The student directory is managed by our PTO as a service to our families. We only provide the student directory to paid PTO members. You can do this on the Forms & Payments page of our website and then find the PTO Membership Form on the left hand menu. Membership is for the current school year and costs $15 per family annually. (Note: our website will roll over to the next school year in July and the directory will not be available after that time.)
The $15 annual membership fee helps support various school programs and staff appreciation efforts. The directory is kept behind a membership to protect the privacy and contact information of our families, and it provides digital access (email and phone) which can help families avoid the costs of physical mail.
Most importantly, please know that we never want a financial barrier to prevent a family from participating in our school community. If the membership fee is a hardship for your family, we have a process in place to accommodate those who need assistance. Please feel free to respond directly to this email, and we will ensure you have the access you need.
Once membership dues have been paid, you will have access to the directory. The directory can be found using the left hand menu of our website, and click on the 'Student Directory' tab. The directory is uploaded each year in the fall, and new students are not necessarily added to the directory, unless their parent/guardian adds them directly.
This year we are trying out a new system of volunteering for the events put on by the PTO. Each grade will be in charge of hosting an event. Don’t worry, you will not be alone! Each event will be led by a PTO board member. If you are unable to help out with your child’s grade’s event, help is welcome from anyone who would like to join in for any of the events. Below are the PTO events this year and their corresponding host grade:
Movie Night – October 17 – 1st Grade
GLOW Dance – April 10 – 2nd Grade
Book Fair – March 24 & 26 – 3rd Grade
Art Night – March 26 – 4th Grade
Earth Night/Color Run – April 24 – K & 5th Grade - NEXT EVENT
Please see the announcement on our PTO website regarding details and which Board Member will be leading your event.
