Hello Cub Family!
Parent/Teacher Conferences are coming up on September 30 and October 2. Our staff is excited for these meaningful conversations, where we’ll celebrate the wonderful learning happening in our classrooms and share updates on each child’s progress.
You’ll find sign-up information below. While you’re here, be sure to stop by the library to connect with our specialists and learn more about the engaging programs they’re leading. We are truly fortunate to have such talented educators supporting every student in our school!
🍂 With the cooler weather, please remember to label coats and jackets—our lost and found is already filling up fast!
And a huge thank you to our thoughtful pick-up and drop-off drivers. By following the new boundaries around the main crosswalk, you’ve helped improve safety and visibility for everyone. We appreciate you, Momma and Poppa Bears! 🤩

Remember the thrill of riding a bike for the first time or walking or rolling to school on the first day? There’s a feeling of joy and independence—a sense of adventure—that doesn’t fade. Of course, there are many other benefits to walking, biking or rolling to school, too. Healthier Habits Active trips to school enable children to incorporate the regular physical activity they need each day while also forming healthy habits that can last a lifetime. Cleaner Environment When families decide to lace up their sneakers or strap on their helmets to get to school instead of riding in a car, they help reduce the amount of air pollutants emitted by automobiles. To learn more about the health risks of pollution, visit www.epa.gov/urban-air-toxics.
Practice Promoting Safety Some of the best ways to increase the safety of a child’s walking or rolling trip to school are to:
Provide safe, well-maintained walkways separate from vehicles.
Teach children to cross streets at marked crossings and to always look left-right-left.
Slow traffic in neighborhoods and near schools through traffic calming strategies and enforcement efforts.
Work with parents of children with disabilities and special education professionals to identify accessibility barriers.
Ensure that walkways are continuous and meet or exceed national accessibility standards.
Install curb ramps at every intersection and at mid-block crossings.
Provide accessible pedestrian signals at intersections.
Parent/Teacher Conferences Are Here!
Our staff is looking forward to hosting Parent/Teacher Conferences on September 30th and October 2nd. Please call the office if scheduling changes are needed. Conversations will surround current progress and observations in all content areas. Don’t forget to stop by to see the specialists and practitioners in the library. See you then!

Hello Kloefkorn families 😁 My name is Mrs. Thorne and I am filling in as the school counselor while Mrs. Jones is snuggling her new babe!
I started last week and have absolutely loved being here, getting to know your kiddos, families and working with the amazing staff here.
Our classroom counseling lessons these last few weeks have been divided between 2 different lessons. Lesson #1 has been understanding positive mindsets and learning how to create them for a responsible learning environment. Keep trying! Is what we can tell ourselves and encourage others to do.
For our other classrooms, we have been focusing on T*H*I*N*K (True-Helpful-Important-Necessary-Kind) and using the analogy of rock statements and sand statements. If it’s a rock (one that needs to stay in our brain) statement, it will not flow through the strainer; but if it’s a sand (one that will make someone feel better) statement it will flow through.
I look forward to meeting many of you during parent teacher conferences! Please feel free to stop by and say hi! I will be here until the beginning of December and then Mrs. Jones should be back.
Please reach out if there is anything I can do to assist you! Enjoy the beautiful fall weather!
Mrs. Tabitha Thorne

Requesting a Coat
Families who are in need of winter coats for their pre-school and elementary aged children are asked to fill out this form bit.ly/Bubbas2025 by Monday, Sept. 30.
You will need to include your contact information, the child’s size, age and school. We cannot guarantee a new coat for every child, but we will do our best to fulfill as many requests as possible. Coats will be distributed to students through their school by mid-November.
A big thank you to everyone who has turned in immunizations, physicals, dental exam notes, etc! I have started sending home letters or emails indicating if your student is missing some documentation here at school–so please be sure to check those backpacks for the NEON envelopes from the health office. If you are unsure if your student is missing anything, feel free to send me an email and I am happy to check! As a reminder, doctors offices do not automatically send any documentation to the school–this has to be requested by the family. The deadline for all students to be immunized (with proof of immunization at the school) is October 15th. Please make an appointment to have any needed vaccinations to avoid exclusion from school.
School health screenings have started! Neb Rev. Stat. § 79-249 provides statutory authority to the Department of Health and Human Services to outline minimum requirements and regulations for school health screening. The purpose of screening is to identify those students needing further evaluation or assistance in the areas screening. Parents/guardians are notified of the screening results if the student is found to need further evaluation, as determined by a qualified screener and comparison of individual data with an objective standard. The cost of such evaluation shall be borne by the parent or guardian of a student. Students in Nebraska schools are screened per state requirements for vision, hearing, dental health, and height/weight. Vision screening may be completed using an electronic instrument called a Vision Spot screening. *First notices of health screening referrals will also come home in NEON envelopes in backpacks.
The dentist is coming this fall! The dentist will see all students who have not either submitted a recent dental visit note or whose parents have not informed the health office of their most recent dental date (email is ok for this!) This visit from the dentist does not take place of regularly recommended dental visits, as it is just a screening. The dentist who is coming will not be doing any cleanings or treatment. If your student is seen by the dentist here, a note will be sent home if they need to be seen for treatment (cavity fills, etc) by your regular dentist.
For parents/guardians of students in ALL grades, please consider sending your student with an extra set of clothes in their backpack every day to school. We have had lots of clothing changes so far this year for a variety of reasons, including spilled lunches and mud. Our extra clothing closet is already dwindling and students almost always prefer to wear their own clothing in those circumstances as well.
Thank you! -Kelsey Jaacks, RN, BSN
Would you like to help your student keep track of the books they have checked out from the school library? Here's how:
Begin at portal.lps.org
Enter your student's ID and password (if you don't have this information, the school office can provide it for you).
Select "Destiny Discover" from the alphabetical listing in the portal.
Click the login button in the upper right corner to log in.
Click on the white button that says "LPS Portal" on the left side of the login screen.
Select "My Stuff" in the menu on the left side of the page.
From the drop-down menu, choose "Checkouts" to see which books your student has borrowed.
At the beginning of the school year all LPS students review Chromebook expectations and the Responsible Use Agreement (RUA) for Chromebook use. Learn more about Chromebook use in LPS and review the expectations outlined in the RUA by visiting this Chromebook Use and RUA Information page. Here are some questions to start a conversation at home about Chromebook expectations:
How do you take care of your Chromebook?
When can you use your Chromebook?
What settings can you change on your Chromebook?

Parenting a "Chromebook student" can present some interesting challenges. While few students would choose to do worksheets all evening just for fun, your student might actually WANT to be on their Chromebook at night. It can be hard to tell what they're focusing on while staring at the device screen. Use this Parent Guide to Student Chromebooks & the Digital Learning Environment in LPS resource to help inform your conversations about expectations for Chromebook use at home.
