Hello Kloefkorn Community!
We are also celebrating a wonderful start to the school year! The first weeks have been full of energy, learning, and joyful connections across classrooms.
This year, our school theme is Connected in Every Circle. We kicked off the year by sharing the book The Circles All Around Us by Brad Montague, which reminds us how kindness, inclusion, and community help our circles grow stronger. During the first week of school we played a game with some mystery readers. 😁 It was so much fun, we thought we should share with home! 📗 Mystery Reader Link To hear the reader, watch in slideshow.
Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we navigated construction around the building. Please see the common practices (listed below) at Kloefkorn. Your support helps keep our focus on what matters most—our students, their learning, and the connections we build together.
♥ Ms. Cook

● If students bring a personal electronic device to school, it should be kept in their backpack, locker, or location designated by school staff during the school day. The school is not responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen devices.
● Personal invitations will not be distributed during the school day. Phone numbers and addresses cannot be distributed by any school personnel. To encourage after school connections, PTO offers a student directory with phone and address information as a part of membership.
● For the safety and well-being of students, parents, community members and staff, pets are not allowed to be brought on school grounds when students are present. Having your pet in the car with you when picking up your child is acceptable. Animals brought to school as Pet Therapy animals will follow the “Pet Therapy Guidelines.”
Traditionally, one of the rituals families participate in as they prepare for the new school year is to purchase school supplies. In accordance with the Nebraska Constitution and state and federal law, Lincoln Public Schools provides a free, public education to all students. This generally means the district provides the supplies needed for instruction at no cost to students. This includes text books, pencils, erasers, crayons, glue, scissors, paper, notebooks, tissues, etc. For this reason, please do not send school supplies for your child’s individual use at school.
You are NOT required to purchase any of these items, but you may wish to purchase and donate some items to your child’s classrooms. We ask that you do not put your child’s name on any items. All items purchased will be graciously accepted as a donation to the school and will be shared by all students within the classroom. See the list below for ideas.
Staff may also have some subject or grade level specific ideas.
● Kleenex
● Black Expo Markers
● Pre-Sharpened #2 Pencils
● Disinfect Wipes
● Bandaids

A big thank you to everyone who has turned in immunizations, physicals, dental exam notes, etc! I have started sending home letters or emails indicating if your student is missing some documentation here at school–so please be sure to check those backpacks for the NEON envelopes from the health office. If you are unsure if your student is missing anything, feel free to send me an email and I am happy to check! As a reminder, doctors offices do not automatically send any documentation to the school–this has to be requested by the family. The deadline for all students to be immunized (with proof of immunization at the school) is October 15th. Please make an appointment to have any needed vaccinations to avoid exclusion from school.
School health screenings have started! Neb Rev. Stat. § 79-249 provides statutory authority to the Department of Health and Human Services to outline minimum requirements and regulations for school health screening. The purpose of screening is to identify those students needing further evaluation or assistance in the areas screening. Parents/guardians are notified of the screening results if the student is found to need further evaluation, as determined by a qualified screener and comparison of individual data with an objective standard. The cost of such evaluation shall be borne by the parent or guardian of a student. Students in Nebraska schools are screened per state requirements for vision, hearing, dental health, and height/weight. Vision screening may be completed using an electronic instrument called a Vision Spot screening. *First notices of health screening referrals will also come home in NEON envelopes in backpacks.
For parents/guardians of students in ALL grades, please consider sending your student with an extra set of clothes in their backpack every day to school. We have had lots of clothing changes so far this year for a variety of reasons, including spilled lunches and mud. Our extra clothing closet is already dwindling and students almost always prefer to wear their own clothing in those circumstances as well.
Here’s to a happy and HEALTHY school year!

Hi, Kloefkorn families! My name is Mrs. Jones and this will be my third year as the school counselor at Kloefkorn. It has been the absolute best to have students back in the building, and to meet our newest cubs! Classroom lessons, booster groups, and student meetings are in full swing! When I have a classroom lesson with your student, they will come home with a sheet that includes the topic of our lesson and some questions they can share with you, and you can have conversations at home to help them continue to think about the skill or topic that was covered - something to be on the lookout for!
🤩This month, I want to share an invite with YOU to Kloefkorn’s school counseling advisory council meeting! 🤩
I’d love for you to join our School Counseling Advisory Council meeting! This group is made up of parents, staff, and community members who come together to share ideas and give feedback on how our school counseling program can best support students at Kloefkorn.
We will hold a meeting twice a year - once each semester. The first meeting will be on Thursday, September 11th from 3:05-3:35, and the second has yet to be scheduled, but will be sometime in the spring. This is a great way to stay connected, learn more about what’s happening in our school counseling program, and make your voice heard. I hope you’ll consider joining - I would love to see you and hear suggestions or ideas you may have for Kloefkorn’s school counseling program.
Your students and other children are more than welcome to join, and I will have some things set up for them!
Contact
I am at Kloefkorn all day, every day - please feel free to reach out at any point with questions or concerns.

This year, Kloefkorn once again has the opportunity to participate in the Food BackPack Program. This Program is made possible through our partnership with the Food Bank of Lincoln. The program is designed to help ensure children have nutritious meals over the weekend.
Every Friday, there will be a bag filled with non-perishable food items, as well as fresh fruit, and on occasion, vouchers for eggs, bread, or milk that can be redeemed at any Russ’s Market or Super Saver in Lincoln. The bags will be delivered to your student’s classroom each Friday, and your student will be responsible for taking them home.
If you would like to participate in the program, please email our school social worker, Miss Piro - mpiro@lps.org, or call the Kloefkorn office!
Requesting a coat
Families who are in need of winter coats for their pre-school and elementary aged children are asked to fill out this form bit.ly/Bubbas2025 by Monday, Sept. 30.
You will need to include your contact information, the child’s size, age and school. We cannot guarantee a new coat for every child, but we will do our best to fulfill as many requests as possible. Coats will be distributed to students through their school by mid-November.
Did you know that parents can access our school library catalog and online resources from home?
Begin at portal.lps.org
Enter your student's ID and password (if you don't have this information, the school office can provide it for you).
Select "Library Website" from the alphabetical listing in the portal.
Once you arrive at the library website, select Destiny Discover for the online catalog or choose the Home Access tab or Home Access button to explore other resources.
Did you know your school librarian leads digital citizenship instruction for K-12 students throughout the school year? These lessons are embedded in the standard curriculum. They teach about the following topics:
Digital Safety
Media & information Literacy
Digital Well-Being
Social Responsibility
The goal is to promote safe, respectful, and responsible digital choices. To learn more, keyword search for "digital citizenship" on the LPS website. Want ideas for supporting digital citizenship in your home? Follow your school, LPS Library Services, or #lpsdigcit on social media to get weekly tips. Find additional digital citizenship tips on our website: Library Services Digital Citizenship Tips.
Parents and students can access important Class Information (course description, grading practices, class tips, etc.) on the web (preferred) or via the mobile app. Step-by-step directions can be found on this document: Viewing Class Information in Synergy: Parents & Students or in these video tutorials: Synergy ParentVUE Tutorials.
The District’s goal is to ensure at least one parent/guardian per household has activated and uses their ParentVUE account. If you haven’t yet acquired an account, please contact the school office for an activation key.
Additional information about ParentVUE can be found on our school home page under the ParentVUE button.
Save yourself a phone call by using ParentVUE to report full-day absences (partial day absences still require a call to the school office to specify what time the student will be gone). There is also a place to add a note if more explanation or details are needed. The attendance office will view and process the information you enter.
If using the ParentVUE app (phones & tablets):
Select the appropriate student and click the blue “Report Absence” button to enter the date(s) and reason for the absence(s).
If using ParentVUE via the web:
Toggle to the appropriate student in the upper left hand corner. Next, click on the Attendance button and then the blue “Report Absence” button to enter the date(s) and reason for the absence(s).
Parents/Guardians can easily send messages to their student’s teachers from right within ParentVUE. Clicking on the small “envelope” button next to a teacher’s (or other staff member’s) name anywhere within the platform (e.g., Current Schedule, School Information, Grade Book, etc.) will begin a draft message within Messages/Synergy Mail. More information about messaging your student’s teachers can be found on the LPS ParentVUE Quick Guide.
Email board@kloefkornpto.org if you have any questions, or visit our website www.kloefkornpto.ptboard.com/home for more information regarding what the PTO is up to.
