Social studies students are in the midst of their unit on “Reconstruction”. We answer the questions: “How did Freedpeople work to secure freedom?”, “Where African-Americans really free after the Civil War” and “How was violence used to overthrow reconstruction?” The terms the kids will learn and are not limited to are Reconstruction Amendments, Lincoln, Radical Republicans, Freedmen’s Bureau, Segregation, Black Codes, Jim Crow Laws, Sharecropper, KKK, Plessy v Ferguson and Civil Rights. The unit culminates in our final DCA of the year analyzing two differing justice opinions on the Plessy case and how it relates to the Reconstruction amendments.
