In PE, students enjoyed learning various cooperative games during the first few weeks of school.
This week in PE, we're kicking off our softball unit! Students will be learning the fundamentals of throwing, catching, hitting, and base running, all while building teamwork and sportsmanship.
Please make sure your child wears appropriate shoes and clothing for active participation. We’re excited to see their skills grow over the next few weeks!
Brown, Haney, & Regnier Science
Unit 6.1 (Light and Matter):
How does a one-way mirror work? Though most everyone knows that one-way mirrors exist, having students model how they work turns out to be a very effective way to develop their thinking about how visible light travels and how we see images. Initial student models in this 6th grade light and matter science unit reveal a wide variety of ideas and explanations that motivate the unit investigations that help students figure out what is going on and lead them to a deeper understanding of the world around them.

6th Grade ART, Mrs. Covey
6th Grade students in art class are creating Explosion Books!
Students have learned about the art history of abstract art while also creating their own version using neurographic lines.
We talked about color harmony when choosing a color scheme that works well for our books.
We have been exploring the media of origami while creating the inserts of our Explosion Book.
Today into next week 6th grade will assemble their abstract art into their Explosion Book to create a finished product.
Mrs. Pieper - 6th FCS
6th Grade students in Healthy Living have just wrapped up their lessons on learning parts of the sewing machine and how to run the sewing machine.
Starting next week, the students will be starting their sewing projects. They will be making a pillow cover. Each day I will demonstrate a new step of the project in class, and then the students will have time to work on that in class.
We have talked about the importance of staying on task and working throughout our time in the sewing room. If students fall behind, they will need to find a time to come in after school to finish their project.
Orchestra - Hegert
Welcome, 6th grade orchestra, to a new year of music making! I am looking forward to starting lessons next week. I sent home a paper note with each student that contains the information below and more, as well as an email through synergy. If you did not get these, please talk to your student about the note and/or double check which email you have listed for yourself in synergy. Email will be my primary method of communication throughout the year. :)
The class syllabus contains the concert schedule, as well as information about expectations and grading. It can be found at the jump code “O8G7” (go to lps website and search “O8G7”)
Students will not need instruments for their first week small group lesson (Aug. 25-29).
After school orchestra will not begin until Monday, Sept. 15th. It will be every Monday after that point from 3:10-4pm in the orchestra room. Attendance at full group rehearsals is a required part of the orchestra curriculum.
