I used all natural materials for my final lamp designs. I used a basket weaved from carbon, some sticks to be used as tentacles and hot glue to stick the sticks on. My lamp is pretty stable considering the sticks I used are not really thin and it’s pretty tough. I used pinterest to find ideas for my lamp and I also used google and other websites from there. I used a specific photo of a jellyfish only made out of paper. I looked at it and then I looked at the materials provided. I said “Why not just add a little bit more depth on the body of the jellyfish?” So that’s how I used the basket to make it the head of the jellyfish. And then I used sticks for the tentacles for more stability instead of paper.
What was interesting about the picture was the different colors used in the jellyfish. It had a blue, green and purple gradient to match the ‘Sea’ vibe and concept of the lamp. It also had different structures like probably a face on the jellyfish, but I didn’t find it fascinating and aesthetic to my design.
I used about 3 days investigating the type of lamp I wanted. After 3 days, that’s how I realized, I wanted a unique and meaningful lamp for my design. So i picked a jellyfish. This is because it’s unique and it shows my love toward the sea. So I started developing ideas for my jellyfish. I looked at the materials we were provided and thought about on how to improve my idea of making a paper jellyfish. So I picked the basket since it’s the closest one toward a jellyfish head. And Mr. Saclo also gave me an idea on using wavy sticks for the tentacles. And then I started making my item. First, drilling a hole in the top of the basket for the lightbulb socket to go in to. Next, I put the wires and the socket and the lightbulb. After that, I started painting the basket navy blue to match the color of the ocean and then putting white streaks to give it a highlighted look. Lastly, I glued the wavy sticks on the bottom using hot glue and i’m done.

My design is environment friendly since the materials I have used are natural, my lamp is eco friendly. The environment my lamp is supposed to be used in can be your bedroom, outside area by the pool and it can be used as a centerpiece as well. For the bedroom, the lamp can be a side piece by a couch or something. For the outside piece by the pool, it can set the mood of the “sea” type of vibe. And it can be on top of a coffee table as a lamp for people can use so it’s useful. And my lamp can be a centerpiece as well. It can be used in a living room with the same type of funky aesthetic as well.
What my lamp looks like is a jellyfish. The head of the jellyfish is a basket painted in different shades of blue. And the tentacles are wavy sticks with its natural color. The lightbulb is located up the head of the jellyfish. It’s made to look like this because it’s supposed to look like a summer pick lamp.
The material of my lamp is all natural. The head of the jellyfish is made out of woven baskets and the tentacles are wavy sticks. The material I used for the lamp is high quality and not too vulnerable to hand with. The only non natural materials I used was the hot glue.
If I had more access to a lightbulb, I would choose a LED lightbulb instead of a plain one. I feel like it would suit it better considering the theme I’m supposed to be portraying. Another way I could improve my design is by maybe also by molding some clay on the basket to give it a wave look so it will look more realistic. This would have been the things I would improve in my design if I had more access to materials and more time.
My target audience can use my lamp to make it fit into a place that matches the vibe of the lamp. For example, it can be placed as a centerpiece or a conversation starter. This can make the house a little bit more colorful and filled with creativity as well. My audience can also use my lamp just for aesthetics. It doesn’t necessarily need to be a centerpiece or conversation starter of some sort, but it can just be used to make the room lighten up a bit more. It can also make a specific room look better, for example a bedroom that’s ocean themed, it can be placed there to match the aesthetics of the bedroom. Lastly, my design can also impact others by encouraging them to use more natural materials. I can give them an idea with a reason as well. In this case, use natural materials because it can protect the environment and have a little bit more uniqueness.
