I got inspired by 2 photos of lamp designs that I found on pinterest. 1 was the box shaped idea and the 2nd one was the heart idea. I decided to kind of combine these two ideas because I thought that it would make my lamp look better. After finishing up the final design I wanted to do I just needed to fix it up and build it. Some designs from online that inspired me were also box shaped lamps that were supposed to be used for exterior lighting on your porch or outside in your backyard. I found it interesting because the lightbulb was fully covered by glass and other materials used for supports like metal on the sides.
I started to look for ideas and inspirations that I was interested in making. I started to draw some initial designs and ideas I found or made up from the pictures I found interesting. After fixing up and drawing my initial designs and ideas I started to eliminate some designs and ideas that I found hard to do or lost interest in doing.
The first challenge I faced was cutting up the wooden sticks into smaller and shorter pieces used the saw as the sticks were very hard and thick. This was also a challenge as it would take up at least 3 - 5 minutes to cut 1 stick which is a lot of time. One last detail I would like to add is that a lot of other people needed to use the saw and the small wood cutter as well which would take a lot of extra time. My second challenge was that I would keep on changing my ideas on how I would build the lamp that it would be the right size and it would look nice.
I think one of the first things I would change would be the rice paper into a thicker and sturdier material so the light would only pass through the heart cutout that I made so that it would be clearer to see. I would also change my lightbulb into a LED light bulb so that I could change the color of the light passing through the cutout so that it oud match the theme of my lamp better.
