AP Seminar

AP Seminar is a foundational course that engages students in cross-curricular conversations that explore the complexities of academic and real-world topics and issues by analyzing divergent perspectives. Using an inquiry framework, students practice reading and analyzing articles, research studies, and foundational, literary, and philosophical texts; listening to and viewing speeches, broadcasts, and personal accounts; and experiencing artistic works and performances. Students learn to synthesize information from multiple sources, develop their own perspectives in written essays, and design and deliver oral and visual presentations, both individually and as part of a team. Ultimately, the course aims to equip students with the power to analyze and evaluate information with accuracy and precision in order to craft and communicate evidence-based arguments.

AVID

AVID is a yearlong course for students who are serious about attending college, but could benefit from additional support while taking rigorous courses at CHHS. AVID students learn the skills and responsibilities of performing in a high academic program and the requirements to enter, and succeed, a four year college or university. AVID students challenge themselves by taking rigorous Honors and AP classes. The class is designed to incorporate strategies that focus on writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization and reading (WICOR) to support academic growth. Students must submit an application, an interview with AVID team members, and be accepted to participate in AVID. Students are expected to continue participation in the program each year they are in high school. Students must provide their own 3 ring binder.

Financial Literacy- graduation requirement

This stand-alone financial literacy course will empower students to be in control of their financial future. Effective strategies and information in the areas of financial responsibility and decision making, planning and money management, informed consumer, investing, credit and debit, and risk management and insurance will help students make sound financial decisions and avoid scams. In addition, in this hands-on course students will create personal budgets and saving plans, research opportunities to fund post-secondary college and career options, and engage in entrepreneurial activities to investigate potential opportunities for personal economic growth.

CCP GEN-1022 Strategies for Success

This course provides information and methods helpful for student success. Planning, time management, communication skills, relationships, memory, reading comprehension and retention, note taking, and test taking techniques. Stress management and techniques for overcoming test anxiety will be practiced. Diversity, college resources, and learning styles will be explored.

This course provides instruction related to developing a student’s postsecondary plan. Students will explore options for postsecondary education, training, workforce development and employability. Students participate in the Jobs for Ohio’s Graduates (J.O.G.) program through this course and learn about opportunities for employment. Students can earn their Retail and Customer Service Industry credentials and will complete their Ohio Means Jobs (OMJ) readiness seal.
