In Year 10 Digital Technologies, students will learn about the management of networked systems including security through a variety of research and practical tasks, analyse and visualise data to create Infographics using google forms and spreadsheets and develop algorithms via flowcharts and pseudocode. By employing computational thinking, students will work collaboratively on a range of digital projects and at the completion of the unit, will be able to create digital solutions using the coding language Python.
In this unit, students will investigate a range of food concepts and preparation techniques. Topics include; food hygiene and safe work practices in the kitchen, sensory properties of food, cooking methods and use of equipment, classification of foods, menu planning, foods for special needs and occasions and the commercial kitchen.
Assessment is based on both theory and practical work and covers various areas of investigation, design, production and evaluation work.
Note: User pay materials will be used to enhance the curriculum at a cost of $80* for the Semester. An event will be created with the cost, once the subject selection has been completed and parents will receive a notification on COMPASS to complete payment. *This amount may change by 10-15% each Semester as it is dependent on price rises by external suppliers.
Students can continue to extend their knowledge from semester one or choose this unit as a standalone.
Food Technology looks at the classification and functional properties of food. Students will investigate the principles of cookery and the functions of ingredients through both practical and theory activities. Topics include cooking techniques for a variety of food types including breads and pastries, the origin of plant and animal foods and new food trends. Students will get the opportunity to design and modify recipes and plan menus for specific occasions.
