Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Can I connect with other international staff before arrival?
Yes. International Staff will have the opportunity to connect before arriving to camp. We will introduce everyone during a pre-camp Zoom Meeting, and will likely set up a WhatsApp group specifically for our international team members so you can communicate, ask questions, and get to know one another ahead of time.
How do I ensure I have my J1 visa?
To ensure you have your J-1 visa, you should carefully follow the instructions provided by your international travel agency. They will guide you through each step of the visa process, including required documents, embassy appointments, and timelines. Make sure to complete all paperwork on time, attend your visa interview, and keep in regular contact with your agency representative to confirm that your visa has been approved before making travel arrangements. Please inform your camp director once your visa has been approved.
What training will be provided?
Some pre-camp training may be offered via Zoom. However, most training for your role will take place in the week(s) before campers arrive, on-site at camp. This in-person training will give you hands-on experience, introduce you to camp routines, and ensure you are fully prepared for your responsibilities.
Can I travel in the US after camp ends?
Please confirm with your International Travel Agency. Yes, you are welcome to travel in the U.S. after camp ends, as long as your J-1 visa remains valid. Please note that the camp cannot provide accommodations or arrange travel once your contract has ended, so any post-camp travel will be your responsibility.
What is my role at camp?
Your specific role at camp will be discussed with you by the camp director during your interview. Please note that you will arrive before most staff, and during the first week, you may be asked to assist with camp setup and preparations. Your responsibilities during this time may differ from your role once campers arrive.
What does a typical day look like?
A typical day begins with wake-up, breakfast, and an all-camp morning gathering, where we gather for cheers, announcements, and an overview of the day. Morning activities follow with your role determining your schedule. Activity and Group Counselors lead or travel with camper groups, while Support Staff focus primarily on kitchen or other operational duties and may have additional responsibilities throughout the day. After lunch and rest hour, campers participate in afternoon activities and Intensives, with staff teaching or assisting. The day concludes with dinner, an evening all-camp gathering (including awards), a fun evening activity, and cabin or group time before lights out. Schedules will vary depending on your role.
