Come meet your bandmates and review marching, show music, and CHS band traditions at our Early Summer Band Camp!
If a member is absent from two (2) summer sessions, they will forfeit having a marching spot in the show. Our Show cost exceeds $50,000 to produce and requires your students to be in attendance for all scheduled rehearsals in order to get the best experience.
For all Summer rehearsals, wear black athletic shorts, SHOW SHIRT, sunglasses, sunscreen, running shoes, large insulated water jugs labeled with your name, flip folder ($5 to purchase), music, snacks, and your SACK LUNCH or money for local restaurants.

Arrival / Drop Off: Drop off students at the North CHSBAND practice lot – parents can then exit by driving through and around the back side of CHS. If a parent would like to stay in their cars and wait they can do so in the student lot or faculty lot as long as there is an open space. Please be patient in the lot if we have a traffic build up, and please do NOT honk – as to not distract our students/ teachers. Students will need to have all their equipment/water with them at drop off and will NOT be entering the school unless they are approved by the directors based on instrument storage needs.

Dismissal & Pick-Up: When we finish rehearsals – students will participate in a BAND DISMISSAL and then can move towards their designated pick-up locations. Be flexible with students and plan to be available for your student so that they have time to travel or prepare for their next scheduled class or event.
We finally have a starting document of technique and review of our marching style and an introduction to basics. Browse our MARCHING GUIDE to begin learning!
Both Band and Athletics utilize data from the WBGT index. It takes into account the current temperature plus the heat index for its calculation. We have protocols in place to protect our students through the suggested tiers of hot weather.
Some rehearsals may have limited use of restrooms due as we’ll have our band staff working with / instructing students. Students should utilize the restrooms closest to the auditorium.
Students will need to be conscious of dehydration. We are asking that all our students be conscious about drinking clear fluids the night before rehearsal, in the morning prior to attending, and throughout the band practice in order to avoid dehydration. A small plastic bottle of water WILL NOT BE ENOUGH. Plan ahead so your student maintains healthy hydration!

Define: Wet Bulb Global Temperature
According to NOAA National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, “The Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) is a measure of the heat stress in direct sunlight, which takes into account: temperature, humidity, wind speed, sun angle, and cloud cover (solar radiation). This differs from the heat index, which considers temperature and humidity and is calculated for shady areas. This is a good element to monitor if you work or exercise in direct sunlight. Military agencies, OSHA, and many nations use the WBGT as a guide to managing workload in direct sunlight.”We use the Perry Weather App across the district to monitor weather conditions such as heat and adverse rain/lightning in order to plan and have action plans to support the safety of our students. Throughout the day we review the heat WBGT to determine water breaks and time to cool down as needed.
Students/athletes should be encouraged to drink plenty of fluids prior to and after workouts/games. This along with the availability of water during practices/games will reduce the chance of heat-related illnesses. The eating of proper meals should also be encouraged.
Gradual acclimatization of the student/athlete to hot/humid conditions is a must. Care should be given to ensure that the student/athlete who begins workouts/practices after the first week is not overlooked.
The Carrollton Farmers Branch ISD Athletic & Fine Arts Department uses Wet Bulb Global Temperature (We Do Not Use Heat Index/Temperature) and the recommended guidelines set by the Korey Stringer Institute to monitor heat for outdoor activities.
All Head Band and Drill Team Directors must have an active Perry Weather to receive alerts on the weather.
Definition of water breaks – rest for 5 min. & Plenty of water
It takes 10-14 days to acclimatize fully
Cold water should be available during practice
Allow water Ad Libitum for individuals
Pay additional attention to heavier and lighter-set students and students taking over-the-counter and prescription medication
