Private lessons are an essential support system for our students and quite literally the backbone of our band program. We want to have 95% or more of band students enrolled in lessons to help advance our students' musical proficiency and level of enjoyment in the band!
Private lessons are an INVESTMENT in your child's development and provide a clear and strong support from parents to further promote a young person's skill, musicianship, and enjoyment.
Private lesson participation is a major factor in the success of any band program. The philosophy of the Creekview Band staff is that for our bands to be successful, we must have strong individual players. For this to happen, strong participation in private lessons is key and every Creekview student is encouraged to participate.
The private lesson program is offered to all CFBISD music students grades 6-12. This program is the most important facet in improving the quality of individual student musicianship and thus, the level of ensemble performance. Parents are highly encouraged to consider private lessons for their student in order to facilitate the most improvement and enhance the participation of their student in the band program. Here are some specifics on private lessons:
Private lessons are offered to all band students grades 6-12 on a voluntary basis. (Required for Varsity Bands due to rigor and demand of work)
Lessons are taught during the school day, as well as after school once per week for 30 minutes.
No student will ever be dismissed from an academic subject for a lesson.
The private lesson teachers will be qualified people screened by the directors.
Lessons will be scheduled to accommodate both the student’s and teacher’s schedule.
Lessons are a collaboration of effort and agreement between students, parents, teacher and directors to secure growth and understanding.
Purposes of the private lesson program:
To continue to improve the quality of music education in the CFBISD.
To provide for individual differences of music students.
To boost the achievement level of all music students.
To aid the student in attaining the musical goals forth in the Texas Education Agency’s Essential Knowledge and Skills.
To provide private lessons in the school building allowing students to take advantage of the convenience and expense factors lost by traveling elsewhere for instruction.
To provide the school with control over the quality and cost of private instruction.
To provide the student with one-on-one guidance by a specialist on the student’s instrument.
The cost of the lessons will be $22.00 per 30-minute lesson once per week. Advance payment will be made once a month directly to the private teacher with checks made payable directly to the private instructor. It is the responsibility of the teacher to keep accurate records of the transactions and furnish proper receipts to the student. Teachers must be notified 24 hours in advance if a student will be unable to attend their lesson or the student will be liable for the cost of the lesson.
Creekview Band Private Lessons Scholarship Program
We are very fortunate to have scholarships available for families in need of assistance with private lessons. This is a service provided by the CHS Band Booster Club. In order to continue to be able to provide this service for those with a genuine need for assistance, we ask that only those in financial circumstances prohibiting enrollment in lessons apply. Please note that we have a limited amount of funds set aside for private lessons. Turning in an application does not guarantee that you will get partial or full scholarship. Most of the scholarships awarded will be Half Scholarships. Scholarship applicants will be reviewed by the directors and booster committee, and then we will notify those selected.
Agreement / Conditions if awarded a partial or full scholarship:
Students must demonstrate a willingness to practice, prepare for and attend all scheduled lessons.
Students will be expected to audition for All-Region and participate in Solo and Ensemble.
Parents are asked to volunteer for football games and actively help in fundraising campaigns.
Scholarships must be used on a weekly basis and are not to be stacked or combined for longer lesson times without director’s approval. If a student fails to attend lessons or arrive prepared, lesson scholarship will cease and transfer immediately to student’s personal account and family payment responsibility. We reserve the right to cease award in conditions where we don’t have communication or help from student or family.
*Scholarship assistance application available in the lessons contact page. All requests will be reviewed by a scholarship committee and awarded on a need basis.
LATE APPLICATIONS will not be accepted as funds will have been allocated. Awards will be announced within the next couple weeks.
