Conservation is fundamentally a human behavior change problem.
In recent years, the science of behavior change has made major advances.
CMP has chartered a working group that is seeking to more fully bring the principles and practices of behavior change into the Conservation Standards. In particular, we are:
Reviewing and summarizing existing behavior change frameworks with relevance to conservation practice
Developing examples of conservation situations where behavior change is needed
Developing generic and specific theories of change for different behavior change levers
Making recommendations as to how these materials should be incorporated into conservation practice in general and the CS 5.0 in specific
Developing a plan for getting folks to adopt these principles and practices
In this session, we will provide an overview of this work and get feedback from participants on it
We will also facilitate a practical exercise in which participants will be challenged to take an existing conservation situation and/or strategy that they are familiar with and “behaviorize it” using the materials we have developed. Fabulous prizes to be awarded.
