The Taking Conservation to Scale Learning Network developed and assessed a framework to systematically achieve conservation impact at scale. Based on a review of existing literature, we identified five different approaches by which conservation practitioners could scale up their initial pilot projects. We also incorporated social science behavior change and networking theory into our framework. We then selected six different conservation programs from around the world to help us test and evaluate this framework by using it to build their own programmatic scaling plans. We compared the specific assumptions being made by each program to the generic assumptions in our scaling framework to help validate and refine our original scaling pathways. Building on this work, we have also created the FOS Scaling Challenge which enables practitioners to apply our framework to determine if and how their work can be taken to scale.
In this presentation, we will also showcase the example of the RedParques Network which is scaling up adoption of adaptive management approaches for protected area systems in Latin America.
