Imagine Protected Area (PA) managers assessing their areas using a framework that reveals whether their actions are achieving desired outcomes and highlights the state of threats and values. These assessments guide their conservation efforts and enable impactful decision-making and ongoing adaptive management. Innovative countries are moving toward this vision to fulfill CBD commitments, including the ambitious 30x30 target.
Adaptive management principles can significantly enhance the effectiveness of PAs and Other Effective Area-Based Conservation Measures (OECMs). In this session, we’ll share lessons from over a decade of work in Latin America, highlight a global framework co-developed with WCPA, and explore outcome-based effectiveness assessments. Join us to strategize bridging the gap between the Conservation Standards community and the IUCN/WCPA/CBD, and help integrate these principles into PA and OECM management worldwide. Ideal for coaches involved in PA management—but no prior work in PAs required!
