Kitty Bureau raised her family in Carlton and has lived here for 45 years. She used to take judo classes, and she could toss a good sized person over her head. She also played guitar when she was younger. She was married and has three kids: Ryan, Erik, and a daughter named Katy.

Kitty has lived in Carlton for 45 years and she has lived in the same house for 43 years. In the 45 years that she's been here, she said that it has changed a lot. Carlton merged with the city of Thompson in 2013; she said the flood in 2012 created a lot of problems for the city. In her interview, Kitty said: “I don't know that I have a favorite part about Carlton. I just think that it's like a puzzle that fits really well.¨

Kitty Bureau is currently retired, but was a city council member for 12 years, as well as the Mayor of Carlton for 10 years. She liked being on city council because she liked knowing what was going on in her community and liked being able to make a difference. She was also a beautician for about 10 years. She did not go to college, however she did go to beauty school in Duluth, MN. She went to Denfeld High School in Duluth, MN and graduated in 1969.

Kitty has done a lot in her life. She was the former mayor, and raised her family here because “it is like a puzzle that fits together really well.” During her interview, she brought a painting from her friend of what main street used to look like. Kitty was also on city council, was a beautician, and she also worked at South Terrace. We really enjoyed getting to know her.
