Our group had the pleasure of interviewing Camille LeBrasseur, a citizen of Carlton that has been in/near Carlton for her whole life. She has been dedicated to Carlton with all the years she’s been here! Just to summarize how long she's been here, starting in Sawyer in her childhood, Camille went to high school in Carlton, went to UMD for college, and moved away for a little bit, but decided she loved the comforting feeling of a close-knit small town. Camille also settled down with her husband (Chris LeBrasseur) who owns his own electric company right in Sawyer. Chris and Camille have been happily married for 25 years and have had 2 kids, Jayna and Gavin. She spends her time having fun with her family and helping out around the house and Chris’s business. It was a joy interviewing Camille and learning about one of our experienced community members.

Camille LeBrasseur was mostly with her friends throughout her childhood. She also lived out in the country, and she thought it was so cool that her friends lived in town because Camille went to their houses and she could walk around town. There were some fun and popular restaurants and a little store she and her friends would go to. Also, school took up most of her time in high school, so she didn’t really have space in her schedule to have fun. She was pretty busy most of her time . She had three sports every year and she had all kinds of clubs and she volunteered in the school's band.

Camille’s career path changed a couple times but she ended up loving what she does! She started at UMD for a year and a half, and ended up taking the rest of the year off. She started the next fall at Duluth Business University, which is an old college that isn't up and running anymore. Camille went  to Duluth Business University for an Elementary Education 4 year degree, but couldn’t see that in her future, especially with the amount of time she would be spending in college. She was a nurse for 10 years working in a medical office which she enjoyed well. Being part-owner of a golf course was another one of her fun jobs, and along with that a bar/restaurant. The golf course was a joyful learning experience for her to take on. After resigning from the golf course, she's now a stay at home mom helping Gavin, her son, finish his senior year of high school.

Camille said that the school and the band was a lot bigger when she went to Carlton High school. The school had three floors and the seventh graders were on the top floor so they had to walk the farthest in between classes, like seniority. The town also had a bank, another grocery store, a common restaurant, and more. It had a lot of stuff that it doesn't have now. Camille said she used to live in  Sawyer (right next to Carlton) when she was a teenager and the town's stores were very close together, making it convenient and more fun for Camille and her friends to jump from store to store. She always spent her time in the town, naturally, being from a way smaller area. When it came to historical events in Carlton, there used to be this restaurant that got burned down and was a pretty big commotion in town, as it was a popular attraction. When she was a senior, the night before Halloween there was this big blizzard that covered the whole Carlton area with an insane amount of snow! Everybody stayed in and couldn’t go out since it was so bad. A lot of stuff has changed since Camille was young and Carlton didn't have as many people as it does today. Camille still lives in Carlton and loves how she spends her time!
